Wallabies can play a z-string side this weekend if they want, this game is only for the Welsh to restore some pride, the series is over. Same with the All Black's and the Springboks. Winning after the hooter had gone is not ideal, but a win is a win I reckon, same for NZ.
Thing is, the Blues had a ridiculous shortage of flyhalves this season and Harris had pretty much been the only North Harbour player capable of playing rugby.
Yeah but that is this season. In 2011 the Blues had Brett, Anscombe and McAlister. They chose not to pick Harris and he went to the Reds. You can't tell me that, in late 2010 when the Blues squad was named, it was a good idea to pick Harris instead of one of those players. There are plenty of things to blame the Blues management about but not being able to read the future is not one of them.
What was that last penalty for against the Welsh? I hate how the siren had sounded, so the Wallabies just boringly played for the inevitable penalty.
Hibbard brought the mall down. You couldn't argue with that penalty. The forwards were making good ground from the mall so they kept the ball in there. I am sure after that they would have tried to set up for the drop goal which is the same thing they do in every rugby league match if the scores are level. It would have been idiotic to spread the ball.
What were they doing out shopping when they should have been playing rugby? I'm glad to hear they were making good ground, but they should really have been at the game on time.
Exactly. His form for North Harbour was hardly compelling enough to make the Blues squad at 10 or 12 ahead of McAlister, Brett and Stanley last year. The performances hes put in for the Reds since leaving New Zealand have been such a contrast - sure, his goalkicking's always been good, but his general play's really picked up since moving.
Had a pretty low bar set, tbh. Whilst, as a Brumbies fan, I'm pleased White's still in charge, I do think the SA WC winner would've been the call I'd have made. The Canberra outfit seem to play a more structured game than the Reds, whose undoubted success is largely based around the mercurial genius of Quade, the more reliably deific Genia & the gorgeous step of Ioane. The Reds' pack might set a decent enough platform in Super Rugby, but, as we saw, when the Wobblies tight five fails (as it invariably should when it's referred properly, because it's frankly shithouse) Australia struggle.
The Brumbies are definitely my favourite Australian team in the Super 15. Loved the Mortlock, Gregan, Larkham days.
