Dragons are definitely worse without Widdop. No Cronk is probably a good thing if it brings the Roosters down a notch but every other team has gotten slightly worse bar the Knights and Eels who have slight improvements, nothing to sing about though imo. The Warriors, Dragons, Dogs and Titans are so fucking shit. The rest of them aren't that much better, yet they'll flog those teams if they want, then get flogged themselves by the top teams. It's just going to be Roosters Vs Canberra again with Storm and one token team who won't do much when it counts.

I don't think the Broncos are actually half bad, their whole game just relies on the power of Fifita, TPJ and Haas so without them they are shit but with them they're alright.

NRL360 has turned into such a train wreck.

Felt bad for Mary yesterday watching him have to front up to those fuckwits. James Hooper is a twat and Ben Ikin seems to developed one mighty ego over the past 2 years.

Nah Boobidy is definitely right here. Hunt and his contract has been a disaster but not as much as Boyd's last 2/3 seasons. Him sticking around has almost single handedly ruined Brisbane's chances of immediate success whilst bringing in some of the most exciting young players in the game.

Hunt has really fucked the Dragons. But it's not just him. They've got a busted, ageing side of which 90% of first graders are on the slippery slope towards the end of their career. McGregor is also pretty obviously a hapless coach and manager of a roster. Once Brisbane lose Boyd they have the potential to bolster their side and be top 4 contenders very quickly if they get a few decisions right. The Dragons are now where Newcastle were in 2014 but in an even worse spot because there is not an ounce of success leading into the rebuild.

It sounds like you are describing teams with a good balance between their halves and the rest of the team being better than the teams with only one aspect (either a good half and shit forwards or vice versa). As Magic said, in the past the governing factor was whether a team could control the ruck (either with a good forward pack or a great wrestling game), and even if they had a trash halves pairing they could still get a few tries and win a game. Now, it appears that the teams who have a more creative spine and some decent forwards to give them space to work behind are looking like they will flourish, and the teams that don't will (rightfully imo) struggle to win games against the teams that do.

Whether the NRL has enough talented halves to prevent such a lop-sided competition is definitely something that needs to be discussed before expansion, but I'd argue that all the recent changes to the game have just killed the development/careers of the creative halves coming through and this may very well revitalise their development through the lower grades, which can only be a good thing.

I watch it for Kent, who is both a twat and someone with a massive ego but idgaf because he sometimes knows what he's on about. He's interesting to listen to.

I don't mind these blokes openly being fuckwits. It's better than being Anasta. I just wish they backed it up at least some of the time.

True, it is sad. He is shot mentally. He'd be decent with a confident half, as he was when Widdop. When he is required to be the boss he is a busted asshole.

Once again, 800k vs 1 mil. Hunt is being paid Thurston, Smith, Cronk money.

I think Hunt is just in a really bad headspace. I don't think he's inherently shit, or even inherently shit when he's the dominant half. Milford played as a left side fullback half the time when Hunt was at Brisbane and he did fine.

This sort of stuff falls back largely on the coach IMO. A better character than Hunt would have got through it no doubt but I think Hunt would be playing decently in different circumstances.

It's too heavily stacking the deck against the defence. Reduction of interchange is a much better approach.

200k isn't a big difference, especially considering opportunity cost and what the average centre makes vs average halfback. Boyd is definitely more overpaid on that front.

Hunt playing so shit more directly contributes to losses though. If your halfback has a shit game you'll almost always lose. You can probably get away with a centre having a shit game given its probably the least important position on the field.

Lol nah, he's just shit. Cunt had a good 18 months a few years ago but he cant play 7 to save his life.

Well, not to labour the point but 200k is a big difference actually. That 20% difference puts Hunt in the bracket of the most highly paid players in the world, of which there are only a handful.

Hell of a lot more blokes playing for 800.

Yeah Kent has some gems sometimes and definitely calls it how he sees it which seperates him from 95% of other pundits who resort to talking points.

Bit of a fucking douche tho.

Yes and Boyd is the very worst player in the competition with a top 30 contract and he’s one 800k. It’s stopped Brisbane signing a fullback too.

  15. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

lol he was signed as a fullback. He's not the worst player in the comp. Jeebus you exaggerate.

  16. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Yeah MF way off here. Boyd is on 800k and would struggle in reserve grade he is going that bad. Hunt is on 200k more but is still first grade standard, just not worth his price tag. Boyd is a legit liability.

  17. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

He is 100% the worst player in the comp. It is laughable that he has kept his position. Tell me one player in first grade that you would take Boyd ahead of. The useless cunt runs crouched over like a domestic violence victim, he is scared of any contact at all.

  18. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Boyd was signed as a fullback and is being played at centre. It's really not a fair comparison to use this year.

And you're kidding arent you? Ben Hunt is not a fg standard halfback. Have you actually watched him play?

  19. Cribbage RG Cribb

That's because he consistently sucked though. Like if he was being played at fullback in non-existent reserve grade would it suit his point more?

If you spent huge money on a fullback and he sucks so much you have to move him to centre, that's not really better than spending huge money on a half who sucks.

I fundamentally disagree with you about Hunt. He's a good halfback who played above his station for a little while but is playing way below it at the moment. A different environment or a different coach could be producing totally different results IMO. Boyd is just phoning it in entirely at this point -- his failings are entirely because of himself.

  20. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Yes but the fact that he's been moved doesnt in and of itself prove anything relative to Hunt. Who are the Dragons going to move into 7? Oh right a 24 year old reserve grader. There's no one else to unseat him. In fact, being on 1 mil per season is what prevents him from being dropped altogether.

Of course it's Boyd's own fault but let's not pretend he's not a better fullback than a centre. Put Hunt at centre and then we're on a level playing field. Hunt not being moved and having to play an unfamiliar role is not a credit to him.
