    Ah the irony.

I don't think it's woeful but yes it's definitely sub-standard. And I've posted in the past about it too. It's why I feel confident to criticise him on this occasion because not only did he do it at different times throughout the night, he's done it for Souths several times as well.

You don't go to the line and throw a fucken short ball when you have a 4-on-2.

I hope Mal reconsiders this mobility idea. It worked okay this year but I think if Gallen had played Game 3 we probably would've been found out. I actually wouldn't have too much problem with only taking 1 prop on the bench if we've got Myles as an auxiliary but having three second rowers is just insanity regardless of the fact that Papalii can play middle-third.

And as I've said, I don't believe Thaiday is suited even to play prop at club level let alone in Origin. His inclusion as a forward who can move up front completely undermines the mobility plan in the first place especially since he will have played the opening 25 minutes and will be tired before moving in-field.

Daley talking up Hopoate's Origin prospects next year. I won't be surprised if he and Hayne are put next to each other in NSW's backline.

The make-up of NSW's halves will be very interesting. Pearce backed himself into a corner both with his non-existent form but also his bizarre public statements. I can't help but feel, however, that the form-junkie needs his fix. That's to say if Pearce is playing well for the Roosters, he may just get another crack. Reynolds was somewhat exposed during the finals series as most of us knew he would be but he'll be thereabouts no doubt. I think Kurt Gidley is a real smokey with the Knights being firm challengers again.

As for five-eighth, god knows. Sutton, Maloney, even Hayne if Parra play him there. Carney must've screwed Daley's wife or something; still can't believe he wasn't picked this year so I won't be surprised if he's overlooked again in 2014.

Watch for the Knights to have a strong year because if they do I think we may see a Gidley/Mullen club combination in City/Country and perhaps the sky blue.

    2015 State of Origin Series:

Game 1: Etihad Stadium, Melbourne (TBC)
Game 2: Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane (TBC)
Game 3: ANZ Stadium, Sydney (TBC)

I sincerely hope for the fairness of the series that Sydney does not get Game 3. Whilst Melbourne may not be Lang Park, it is clearly a venue favouring QLD. The Vics hate NSW almost as much as we do so it's just unfair to have two basically home games for QLD in a row. The series is liable to be over before they even get their home match. And who the fuck wants to watch a dead rubber in Sydney with QLD going for a clean sweep and their 10th series victory? It'd be idiotic to allow such a possibility.

Given that Game 1 is the most important, ANZ should be hosting it, then Brisbane, with the Decider in Melbourne IMO. Or at least give NSW Game 2.

I'm tipping Dave Taylor to have a storming year next year. I'm hopeful that Qld's side will look like this:

    1. Slater
    2. Boyd
    3. Inglis
    4. Gagai
    5. Tate
    6. Thurston
    7. DCE
    8. Scott
    9. Smith
    10. Hannant
    11. Parker
    12. Papali
    13. Myles
    14. McGuire
    15. Thaiday
    16. Taylor
    17. Cronk

Haha, 0 forwards who can't play up the guts. Certainly a different idea to Mal's mobility policy. Also has 0 chance of happening for that reason IMO.

I like the strategy of just running over the top of them, but the QLD big forwards always seem to be ready to be stretchered off after 20 minutes.

What I would want but is probably unrealistic.

    1.Hayne
    2.B Moz
    3.Jennings
    4.Ferguson
    5.Uate
    6.Carney
    7.Reynolds
    8.Gallen
    9.Farah
    10.Tamou
    11.Bird
    12.Lewis
    13.Fensom

    14.Gidley
    15.Merrin/Woods
    16.Fifita
    17.Graham/Mckinnon/Cordner

Cordner will get picked which is fine but I rate Wadey G and Mckinnon higher in terms of young edge forwards who will be essentially the next guard once the current backrow gets longer in the tooth.

Watmough should definitely be in the side IMO. Surprised to see you leave him out considering you pretty much are him. :p Plus he was great for us this year.

  12. Magic AJ Parker

I really don't get the hype around Mckinnon.

Cordner, Sironen & Cartwright look to be the next generation of rep standard second rowers imo.

Wade Graham's opportunity was this year with the right second row position still up in the air but Lewis, finally, well and truly cemented that position up until he retires.

Still not gonna write of Tariq Sims but he's been a shadow of the player he was in his debut season.

Has Taylor ever put together more than one month of good form?

  14. Cribbage RG Cribb

Despite being primarily a left side second rower.. ?

Graham played most of the season with a broken hand and was a worse player for it. He should be right in the mix.

  15. Magic AJ Parker

Well I think Bird should be a certainty for the left second row position and it was never up, or at least shouldn't have been up for grabs to begin with.

I'm also becoming a pretty big advocate of picking a lock on the bench over a second rower. I think 3 second rowers is overkill and at the moment that's where Graham falls.

  16. Cribbage RG Cribb

I kind of think that if you pick four back rowers, one of them has to be able play both second row and lock. Balancing the NSW back row rotation is actually really difficult. On one hand I do think that modern second rowers should be looking to play 80 mostly, but with Watmough being best suited to the bench, Bird being best suited to the left edge and Gallen playing heaps of minutes up the guts.. if you pick two props and Watmough on the bench then one of those props will get fuck all game time and both Bird and Lewis will absolutely have to play 80 regardless of how the game goes, and they'll have no injury cover.

That's where Cordner becomes so useful; I'd almost think about starting him at lock for the opening exchanges and think about bringing him back on in the second row if Bird or Lewis need a rest.

Wouldn't you rather Shillington have a great year and get back to what he was?

  18. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Geez, you'd back Watmough to play 10-15 minutes on a fringe, surely...

  19. Cribbage RG Cribb

His defence was terrible on the fringes even when he played there every week, I shudder to think what it'd be like now. I'd almost rather play Gallen there. Almost.

Forgot Watmough somehow. Would be in there defo.
