Yeah just read it on Wikipedia. Good to see he considers himself a QLDer. Forcing him to play for NSW would be ridiculous.

Typical NSW, forcing players play for them even if they don't want to.

Wouldn't have a contest if they didn't though. Nobody wants to play for NSW, obviously.

You sure about that? Isn't the rule you need to have lived in the state before you were 13. Him spending the first 10 years of his life in QLD, would put him in the spot where he gets to choose, or have I not read the rules properly?

I reckon if Milford keeps improving, he'd go OK in the halves with DCE and Inglis at fullback.

I wonder which Dane will get the gig next year in Hodges's stead should he fail to be fit. Personally, I'd move Tate in-field but that is very unlikely to happen, much to my disdain. I would urge people not to discount the importance of Gagai, because he plays for Newcastle, playing in this year's finals series. Whereas Nielsen obviously won't. Then again, I don't see the Knights going too deep into the finals. Just a point I thought I would mention.

who says warriors won't be in the finals? they'll win this weekend.

Maybe. Their F/A may hurt them. I really don't think they'll be there.

THE NRL is finally on the verge of fixing its playing schedule around State of Origin next season.

Head of football Todd Greenberg wants to reduce Origin from an eight-week series to six weeks, jammed in between rounds 12 to 17 instead of 12 to 19 like it was this season.

That means only 33 NRL games would be affected by Origin rather than 48 this year.

Two full rounds of football would no longer be affected by the Origin series.

“Origin is the greatest thing we’ve got but we don’t want it to influence the season as much as it did this year,” Greenberg said.

“We always have a great start to the year and then Origin hits and there’s no doubt it affects the actual competition.

“For a lot of people, this year’s series seemed to drag on a bit.”

As soon as he arrived at the NRL three weeks ago, Greenberg organised meetings with the television networks to discuss the issue.

Channel Nine, Fox Sports and the RLPA are all involved in the discussions.

The competition would work like this: Round 12 (no Origin players), Round 13 (Origin players back-up), Round 14 (no Origin players), Round 15 (Origin players back-up) Round 16 (no Origin players), Round 17 (Origin players back-up).

Using the term "fixing" loosely there.

    8-10 das - rest
    3-5 days - 2 games
    8-10 days - rest
    3-5 days - 2 games
    8-10 days - rest
    3-5 days 2 games

Seems like a really big ask on their bodies.

If either of our halves went down before Origin and Cherry-Evans was called into the side, I'd put Jake Friend on the QLD bench. He definitely seems like the next best long-term hooker option for QLD. I'm very fearful that when Smith retires we're going to end up with McCullough. Early indications are that that's what the QRL and Meninga favour, alas...

That's because he is the best man for the job, you just wait MF. You just wait.

    Please hurry up 2014 series.

I still think the way Origin is hosted is retarded.

Just speaking of the Cronk vs Cherry-Evans thing, Phil Gould wrote a brief though interesting article stating that we may be about to enter the Cherry-Evans era. That, in his view, Cherry-Evans was showing signs of becoming the dominant player of his generation. I would have to concur. I've been saying for a while now that I think he has many of the same traits as Johns that go beyond a mere resemblance to Joey's style and physical characteristics. The game against the Sharks was a pretty good testament to that, in my opinion. He looks to have time, which is a hallmark of all great playmakers. He also looks to have control, the sort of which few players can marshal. He's obviously QLD's next major half and burgeoning prospect. If Cronk and Thurston were injured, I'd definitely pick him to wear the green and gold 7 over Pearce, Reynolds, and Carney. It's my hope that the latter of these three will one day be Cherry-Evans's foil in the Test side and that they're the two chief playmakers for their respective states.

QLD will not make the same mistake with Cherry-Evans that NSW are making with Carney. We may make mistake at hooker once Smith retires but generally speaking QLD have a much better record of picking their absolute best in the halves as opposed to NSW who routinely fail when it comes to arguably the most important position on the field.

Ignoring that....Mullen and Carney should be locked in for next year.

Prepare yourself for Reynolds is all one can say. Especially if Souths win the GF and he somehow manages to get into the Test squad to go to England. Heaven help us...

Replace Reynolds with Pearce in that last post if Easts manage to win the comp.
