Don't think we can win next year without Hodges.

  2. Lukic L Popovic

Especially if we pick Brooks & Carney.

How long exactly is he out for? I've heard that he could be back before Origin.

    How are we?

3-5 years really isn't that far away. Most players start to peak at around the 100 game mark and that (ideally) is when you want to start blooding them into origin.

I'd be surprised if any of them are still going around in 5 years time, a few will in 3 years time. They certainly still wont be performing at the same level.

NSW would have Tamou, Merrin, Mannah, Tolman, Woods, Fifita, Fensom, Cordner, Sironen & Sims.

Out of that I'd say Merrin, Woods, Fifita, Cordner & Sironen look like exceptional prospects for the future.

Looking forward 3-5 years I think NSW will really struggle at dummy half and in the halves (like we do now). Where as QLD seem pretty set with DCE and Friend/Srama/Segeyaro coming through.

Nah I just always think of Te'o as a kiwi, he certainly wasn't Mal's best signing for you guys anyway :p

You never know. Cameron Smith is extremely hardy. If Lockyer, Price and Civoniceva can play as long as they did, I wouldn't write Smith off. Myles the same.

I agree but you know as well as I Magic, how quickly things can change. 5 years ago Matt Scott couldn't make the QLD side, now he's the best prop in the world. 5 years ago Prince and Wallace were probably their state's best halfback option now they're lucky to be in FG.

My concern isn't about whether we'll be able to fill our prop and back row stocks. It's what we're going to do after Smith and Thurston retire. Cherry-ripe is great but he's no Thurston. Not yet anyway. And Smith is the best hooker I've ever seen. They're practically irreplaceable. I personally don't think NSW will win another series until they retire but when they do, I wouldn't be surprised if the Blues go on a little streak of their own.

Lockyer played up until 34 and was still excellent. He could have probably played another couple of years at a high level, but he didn't want to. Neither Thurston or Smith look like they are slowing down yet, so I reckon they could go on for at least another 3 or 4 years, and possibly longer, like Lockyer could have.

Yeah agreed. I think if Lockyer hadn't played so much footy over his career, he would've played on. The guy played 458 FG level games. Smith and Thurston haven't played anywhere near that.

    Lockyer - 458
    Smith - 320
    Thurston - 270

    I would be.

When our aging big guns hang up the boots, I can only identify 2 blokes who may steer NSW to any kind of streak, and I'm talking about Farah and Carney.

Farah will be 30 next season, and Carney, who is no spring chicken either will be 28.

If we are Looking ahead to a time when we wont have Smith, Thurston, Slater et al. NSW will likely still have a weaker spine on paper.

I do believe series victories during this period will be more or less tit for tat though.

There's no way of knowing that though. Who do we have earmarked for the 6 jersey?

Would be Keary I guess, pending the IC not forcing him to be NSW-eligible. And of course him actually doing something in first grade. :p

Wasn't even aware he was a QLDer. That's good news. I rate him.

He was born in Queensland and considers himself a Queenslander, was in the Emerging Origin squad I think, but the current rules make him a New South Welshman because he moved here when he was about 10 and played for my local club.
