    Much better day of NPC rugby today. The Waikato vs. Northland game was a humdinger IMO. Some top notch play from time to time and a close game too. Really hoped Northland could get up - and they were still in it with 5 minutes left on the clock. You can guarantee that Whangarei would have been sold out if they'd had a Shield defence up there. I do really like to see the Shield go outside the main metropolitan centres - they do their Shield defences properly in the country.

    Reasonable Shield game this one. Otago playing pretty well. Dogged on defence but have showed some endeavour going forward too. I don't think Waikato have been too bad.

    Worst player on the pitch has probably been the Otago full back though. Billy Kazim standard tactical kicking.

    Well, Otago have just thrown away a lovely lead through two bits of poor defending at the set piece. Pretty much the same try for Waikato twice there. Disappointing.

    EDIT: Wow. Spoke too soon. Disallowed for a forward pass, and I'm far from convinced that it was forward under the current rules.

    Hopefully it also means they have a massive turnout for their first shield defence (vs. Hawke's Bay). Otago's coffers could do with a bit of filling.
