Obviously you can stand it or you'd be gone by now. Indeed. Although the $200 option is only applicable to the forum-going-down-for-5-minutes problem, not the spam problem. It actually wouldn't solve the spam thing.
Spam Bot Solution Why not create a sub forum under "Forum Discussion" called "Bot Catcher" or something. The second an account posts in there it is banned and if possible, all its posts are deleted. Create a sticky in there so that normal people know not to post in there. If they do, it's their own fault.
put a picture thing upon sign up so they cant get it right and cant sign up there is a vbulliten add on for it
Put an anti-spam question on the sign up sheet. They're getting to be quite the proverbial pain in the pimply posterior.
