One of those teams would have the bye in the PC so they'd have it then in the Second XI comp as well. It'd get confusing when the bye team was NSW City or NSW Country as well. I'll figure it out when it gets to that; we don't need to worry about it until next season.
I dunno if this is the right thread for it, or if it's even remotely possible to happen, but I'd really like to see the focus being brought back to the main Bannerman shield. With all these comps, you find people don't care as much as they used to - you can be shit in 1 comp, but you've still got another 20 where you might succeed. Bannerman Shield should be the absolute main focus of CricSim IMO, and I'd even go as far as eliminating half of the competitions to make it stronger. The way it is now is kinda funny though, Cribb is almost commercialising it. It's sort of becoming the exact same thing that makes him hate NRL club footy.
Just say if they played the last round of Provincial Games, then they can't play 2nd XI. Then you can get rid of the 2nd XI bye as well. Win/Win!
I actually created all the extra provincial games because there was too much player movement in the BS. You can't actually change provinces so there will be some consistency in the teams and they'll develop over time instead of just swapping at the end of every season. But yeah, I know a lot of people feel like that, but to be honest I don't really care because I disagree.
Don't think it cheapens BS at all either. There's a pretty clear progression. ALC=County Cricket Division Two BS=Country Cricket Division One 2nd XI rep=A tour Rep=test cricket
The BS is of a far higher standard than Second XI rep cricket though, and there's virtually no difference between it and the PC these days either. Rep cricket used to be a level above the BS but now it basically runs parallel to it, like the Pakistani structure.
I like it but am totally against NSW not splitting. If they are truly splitting in rep, they need to split at all levels.
That's pretty fucken soft from a QLD captain. I'd rather they not split in anything, it's really gay.
The only advantage is that players who should be playing rep, get to play. Is that worth the negatives?
Yes, but if you read my post correctly, you would see the word if in there. IF they are truly being seperate provinces, they shouldn't then come back together at second xi level.
I don't even think NSW Country have enough players to field a Second XI team though. It's not like this comp would be about winning; both provinces would love to field two whole teams and get more guys in the action.
And plus, not splitting up would mean no way for Asia to play, which is half the main point of this anyway.
