Having a browse on the Penrith site and there is talks of 11.Waterhouse 12.Lewis 13.Burns I'd deadset lose it if that happened.
Backrow isn't really a problem, Lewis and Waterhouse will make any backrow above average and any of the guys mentioned aside from Purtell will do a decent enough job imo. Penrith have deadset gotta go all out for a decent 5/8th. Only thing holding them back from a serious shot at a prem. Yet without one they're a borderline top 8 team. Are there any decent ones in reggies or toyota cup? Speaking of that, does anyone have a list off contract players in 2011?
Ah yeah, that's right. Problem is he'll likely be defending with Jennings or Purtell leaving Walsh to defend with the other. :/ Keeping Gav Cooper as well should've been a priority. Would've been invaluable.
Not really. When in attacking range, his short kicking game suits them well since they've got outside backs who can take advantage of it. They just need someone who can take on the line with a bit of pace. Taumata is perfect, if he comes back a decent defender it'll be so gun for them. Penrith couldn't score a try from their own half to save themselves unless it was like a dropped ball and jennings/gordon ran it back.
Disregarding reports from any trials due to start to next week, this is my side for 2011. 1. Lachlan Coote 2. Sandor Earl 3. Michael Jennings 4. Michael Gordon 5. Brad Tighe 6. Travis Burns 7. Luke Walsh 8. Tim Grant 9. Kevin Kingston 10. Petero Civoniceva 11. Trent Waterhouse 12. Nathan Smith 13. Luke Lewis 14. Masada Iosefa/Nafe Seluini 15. Matthew Bell 16. Sam McKendry 17. * Spot wide open between Worrincy, Laurie, Gibb, Plum etc. Only real possible change for mine if the trials say so is Taumata in for Burns and Seluini in for Iosefa and of course the final bench spot. Taumata is a lot more creative than Burns and has a lot of speed but he lacks FG experience. Burns and Walsh have formed a combination and have worked together. Burns has added muscle and claims he will be more creative... but who knows. Iosefa is a bit of a "I don't know what to do with him" man. Sure he has potential to be good but after two seasons in FG he needs to step up. Seluini has come in and was the Warriors best player. So many questions you could ask and none you can really answer until at least Round 3 this season.
Burns is a terrible 5/8th. You'd struggle to find someone less creative than Walsh,, but there he is. If they go Walsh + Burns in the halves, no chance at all.
Agreed on Burns but he is solid. Trials will probably play a part. Well honestly, I haven't seen him in the centres but he defends in the centres a lot anyway. Definitely not going to hurt to have an experiment. Really hope Elliot sees what everyone else does and picks him.
You don't want a solid player at 5/8th when the rest of the team is pretty much "solid" and will perform week in week out. I'd risk having someone that can have a shocker, but at the same time win the game off his own play. The team is never going to get blown out and will always been in a game unless they really start off on the wrong foot against an awesome attacking team.
