Fuck it I'm getting on board the Panthers to sneak into the 8 next year. As much as I love Walshy, from a playing point we shouldn't/won't lose much in him being replaced by Sowie, it's more a $$ problem. As for Kewt he was mostly potential at 5/8th anyway.

Neither Wal nor Sowie are overly dominant halves, but that's not really Penrith's go anyway. With the roster they've got they'll be looking to dominate in the forwards, big kick chase, focusing on territory, with Segeyaro exploiting tiring forwards through the middle periods.


As much as I think Masoe was a must retain and a perfect bench prop, our pack is stronger overall. I like the addition of Taylor and we'll get a bit of oomph off the bench with either Grant or McKendry coming on (assuming Cleary will start Kite). Kingston will probably play that lock role through middle periods of the game when Segeyaro comes on that will relieve a bit of pressure from Wallace and Soward as well.

It'll hopefully be a structure that they'll fit into with Moylan taking a bit of responsibility from the back. Should help having a bloke like Whare in the centres that can capitalise on half chances, becoming a bit of a classy centre imo.

Best part is if the halves do fuck up, we've got a lot of other promising options, Moylan to 5/8th with Naquiama/Roberts at the back is a pretty exciting prospect looking to the future and John certainly held his own this year.


I'm normally very negative with the Panthers, with pretty good reason, but I'm really thinking that a combination of good depth, strong forwards, a sprinkling of promising youth and a roster that shouldn't be impacted by origin heavily (if at all) will see them eek out enough wins to scrape into the 8.

 

Also what was the name of the under 20's hooker this year? Hoping we've held onto him, looked to have all the time in the world in the few games I saw of the 20's.

 

Yeah I'm very happy with the addition of Taylor even though we've got a bajillion back rowers. Looking at the roster we've got decent depth across the park.
