How many books are there in the entire series, I need to start, lol.

For a follow up Toolman if you like fantasy adventures try The Books of Pellinor by Allison Croggon, I loved them, read all 4 books in 5 weeks!

Both Malazan and WoT are extremely long. Will take you a while to get through them. I personally couldnt get into WoT but my firends have all read it and it gets very good reviews.

    Malazan is very good.

Janny Wurts' series The wars of light and darkness are good. I enjoyed them alot. First book is called The Curse of the Mistwraith. (she splits them into trilogies so I ended starting book 4 before book 1 lol)

Highly recommend Conn Igguldens Emperor & Conqueror series'. Both are Historical Fiction following the lives of Julius Caeser (Emperor) and Ghengis Kahn (Conqueror)

story starts really around the 150 page mark, from there it's non stop action for a little while

oh true, might have to start actually making time for it then, maybe before i go to bed at night or something

Before reading GoT, I read most of Feist's Magician series. I remember the first few books being some of the best I've read in the genre (admittedly not read much), but after a while the quality just slumps and it just becomes a bunch of overpowered people shooting fireballs at each other from a distance.

The first trilogy, at least, are fucking good reads, though.

I loved Magician but really struggled through Silverthorn and a Darkness at Sethanon.

Joe Abercrombie's books are well worth the read. Combines a good story, easy to read, good characters and humour

Just read the first 100 or so pages of ACOK, it goes alright but I feel like I'm still waiting for it to really get going. Hope I don't have to wait too long for someone to lop Joffrey's head off.

They are still head and shoulders above the later stuff, so if you couldn't get through them I think you stopped at the right place. The books with the girl in the other dimension (been years since I've read these) were pretty great IIRC, though.
