Whare's only played one game and it was in Round 2. I'm a big fan and I think he's due back really soon but I can definitely see them leaving him out due to lack of match fitness. I don't think he'd be considered enough of a lock on his spot to hold it in that situation.
I'd take plenty over Gillett. I've never understood the hype. Early in his career he was an extremely potent ball runner but was loose as fuck - I guess there was hope one day that he'd mature with experience. Since Bennett took over last year though he's pretty much been turned into a 80 minute hitup man & tackling workhorse who offers little outside of that. Yet he still makes as many errors as an outside back and has the odd brain fart like on Saturday night when he kicked on third tackle in good ball zone for no one and just turned over possession. I mean he's nowhere near a loose as he was pre-Bennett but he's also nowhere near as potent either. In all honesty I think he's nothing more than a bog standard second rower these days. This is still only his 7th season in First Grade so plenty of time to prove me wrong I just don't see it and never have.
I also have issues with GI at fullback given how lacklustre he has been there this year as well as he was pretty mediocre there in 2014 for the Roos.
I think it's at the point where you either pick Inglis or he just flat out misses out altogether. If I didn't think GI was up to it anymore like plenty of others then I wouldn't bother putting him in the centres tbh.
Well on form he misses out, but given his ability, history and status it would be hard. Can't see Meninga dropping him, would be a needed kick up the arse for him though.
I think the areas he's declined in are less problematic in the centres though. He's reminding me a lot of late career Hodges, who openly admitted he didn't think he was fit/agile enough for fullback but was still a top centre with his upper body strength, footwork and improving ball skills. He's playing too much of a power game to be the best option at fullback anymore IMO but a power game can still be effective in the centres. The problem I have with all that is that Boyd still leaves me a bit cold as a rep fullback. If we were talking Moylan or Tedesco then sure, but like Gemmell I don't like giving Tests to blokes who haven't played Origin, and Boyd isn't anything more than a safe link man. He's a good safe link man, but still.
Hiku has utility value on the bench tbf. Has played five-eighth and can play wing, centre or fullback of course. And when you've got a player of Lolohea's versatility on the field it's easy to shuffle things around
Better off picking Nikorima who can cover the halves and can come on for Luke in the later stages of each half. Having someone who can only cover 1-5 is insane.
Luke sucks when he plays 80 so having a second hooker is definitely a good idea, but I'd pick Leuluai over Nikorima for sure
I would not want Mannering to go into the backs tbh. And I haven't even got Harris in my 17. Nothing wrong with having either a utility back or impact player in the backs on the bench. We have Hurrell there most games.... (you stupid and very very ugly cunt)
