Should there be a 5th team admitted to SR for S4?

An interesting question. I'd like to see Seasonal Rugby expand to have more teams at some point. Currently, we have 101 contracted players; most of whom are active to some extent.

Currently, we have approximately 25 players per team whilst a 5 team comp would have approx. 20 players per team

This would see 25 players not playing for the 1sts; not quite enough for two proper reserve teams, but with uncontracted players, it would be enough. We'd probably need another 10 guys to sign up for Seasonal Rugby to guarantee we'd be in the same position as now with an extra team.

So, what are people's thoughts on a 5th team? I'd also be interested to know if any Top 20 ranked players would actually ever leave their current team; as after all, a 5th team is doomed to fail if they don't have any of the top talent. If you'd like to keep that private, please PM me.

    Poll to follow.

I'd be inclined to wait another season. Whether every signs up again next season is not guaranteed, so it might be better to look at it closer to the end of the season. There are not enough quality forwards to warrant five teams yet either.

Yes, sick of playing for an unofficial reserve side, didn't sign up to the vikings to play for some mash up team.

awaits name to be left off team sheet

Would be good and more people get what they want.
  5. Athlai JJD Heads

Depends on how cool the name would be.

Don't really see the benefit of bringing in one team. Yes, it would allow more players to play first grade, but is it really worth a team having a bye each week? I think if you were to add a team, do it in two, I understand it is difficult because of numbers etc.

    Seahawks would be front runners.

Personally I think it should be a season 5 thing not season 4. As you say the team is doomed to fail if no good players sign up. This is more than likely to happen. I say wait another season, wait for more players to arrive. Then see where we are then.

How far away am I away from refferal bonus btw?

Your referral needs to gain 100 posts in RU Sim - Holbitt has 24. Still, the best referral to date and any others you can source will be similarly rewarded. Holbitt's been semi-active in Cricsim too, so definitely a good find for the site

I think it could be good to have another team in the comp. Having 4 teams in a round robin competition means you play the same team quite a bit because there are only 3 opposition teams.

Seahawks are already taking expressions of interest... bearing in mind we can only take 20 players.
  12. Escath LE Schaw

Not going to leave the Spartans.
  13. Gazza GJ Weaver

    Chiefs perhaps?
  14. Mousey AJ Son

Would definately not leave the Hurricanes.

I would be happy to see another team. I think it can only be good for the competition as a whole.

However it would take someone who is active/successful in the sim to start this new team and attract some players from other teams, as a new team made up from reserves and less active players will be whipped like the LOL Seahacks.

A 5th team would be good for the Sim IMO. As long as they had a decent president and a couple of decent players signed up already before recruitment started they would have a decent chance.

Yeah all for a new team. Not a top 20 player but would happily leave my team for the good of the competition - happy to help a new team in any role - whether that be as a player or more.

I'd be a good pickup, best reserve grade Flanker IIRC. The Spartans are gun though.

Would need a few more signups IMO and keep the semi active guys.

I favour a proper reserve grade with a couple of fillers per team over five first grade sides and a skinny combined reserve grade comp.

The trouble with that is that Rugby is a much more position specific game than cricket. You'd effectively need each squad to have exactly double their requirement for each position. As the Sharks are showing, if you try and create a big squad, you'll end up with four fucking half backs.
