It fits all of Pearce, Maloney, Carney, Mullen, Sezer, Roberts, Kelly and Gidley.

I think that idea that they're on about is taken from the double movement rule, it is a fair link to make.

    Well I'm on board

 Fortunately I don't think Pearce looks good in blue ... or any colour for that matter. His face makes me want to punch a small child.

That's where they get it from but it's still wrong.

Not that they played poorly, certainly not, but I struggle to find room for Gillett and Te'o. I think there ought to be only one bench spot reserved for a second rower and I would probably give it to Papalii. It's a tricky situation though because despite his extremely impressive demonstrations of ability there for the Raiders he played a different position in his two Origin games. As did Gillett so perhaps whatever potential I would want to project onto Papalii it would perhaps be unfair not to grant the same accommodation to Gillett.

It's a curious position to find oneself in particularly for those who maintain a policy of prioritising previous Origin performances over club form. Here you have two second rowers competing for the one position, both of whom have been played out of their element, their usual role. Given these strange circumstances I think it's fair to resort to, or rather fall back on, proven club ability. And there is no doubt in my mind that Papalii is the superior player, both in attack and defence.

wonder if McCrone gets a look in due to Daley's intense love for him

  7. Magic AJ Parker

    He's seriously underrated imo.

I wouldn't pick him but I rate higher than some of the other genuine options.

Do you rate him higher than Pearce? :p

Would get Carney and adam reynolds in the halves. Kidley back on the bench. Idris worth some thought if he pulls his finger out too.

  10. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

lol yeah, pick Idris. I dare you...

  11. SM MD Dorn

Idris wouldn't exactly be a bad pick, he was in pretty damn good form

  12. Magic AJ Parker

Pulls his finger out? He's been gun this year.

If we pick Carney and Hayne whoever we pick at halfback really doesn't bother me there's a group of halfbacks all at about the same level but not one who'd you say is origin class. Reynolds then falls below that group.

My biggest concern is after giving Soward, Carney and Maloney (none ever really impressing) a full serious each we go with one of Sutton or J Reynolds.

Probably not I suppose if you think club form really means a lot. I personally don't. I think he's lazy and a shit defender.

Reynolds is a dangerous pick for NSW because given the fondness of Daley and NSW in general of picking club pairings, you'd have to think Sutton is in with a real chance next year. Of course club form will decide it but you can't like Carney's chances after, as you said, having failed to impress in his shot at it.

  15. SM MD Dorn

He's not played origin for, 3 years now? 2 maybe? He's definitely changed a lot.

I agree that his former was definitely lazy, but this year he seemed to have left that behind, and was "looking" for work more often

  16. Colesy BL Hornby

I could live with Sutton getting a chance.

  17. SM MD Dorn

    Campese and McCrone!

He's played well this year no doubt. I'm not convinced though. If you're going to use form as a guide then what he does now is less significant than what he does next year. He could well fall back to his previous form which, as I said, is laziness and shitty defence. I certainly wouldn't want him defending Inglis. He may be more physically imposing but positionally I think he's good severe deficiencies.

  19. Cribbage RG Cribb

He's been good positionally this year though. Given how bad he was before and the nature of his game in general I do agree it's too quick to pull the trigger right now but it might not be by the time next year's Origin rolls around and he keeps it up.

I definitely think it's funny that he's a much better player now than he was when he actually played Origin and is facing worse competition but isn't getting talked up at all. Shows what being part of a successful/popular Sydney club can do for you I guess, as well as being new to first grade and a bit unknown.

I don't think he belongs in Origin at all. But yes, if his main competition is Josh Morris then I can see why people might want to take the plunge.
