Be nice guys. He's clearly not grown up with it and the best way for him to get into a sport he wants to get into is to post about it. Pretty hard to expect people to take interest in a sport if they're expected to be encyclopedias overnight.

That said he doesn't need to act like a know-it-all either :p

They had 5 managers in 1996/97 alone.

I'd hate to think how many they would have had if they weren't patient with their managers.

  4. Furball G Furball

Nah, fuck off. If he's going to spout absolute bollocks about stuff he knows nothing about then I'm going to slap him down and be a condescending arsehole to him.

    It's for his own good.

Well Man City's treatment of managers in the mid-90s has three fifths of fuck all to do with how long they'll keep Pellegrini on.

    Amen.

Well this is the issue. Fair enough to get into it, but if you don't know a lot about something, learn about it rather than posting as though you know it all.

By all means, if he'd thought that City were notorious for holding managers on too long, he can ask that to learn about it, but don't just assume you're right.

It's not evidence of a club that's patient with their managers, which is what Prez was claiming.

  9. Verigoat S Verigotta

    That wasn't the issue

The issue was saying city have a history of holding on to managers

  10. Eds E Ames

I get that, but the only thing that matters is the current owners. And based on the current owners, I don't think Prez's comment was too far off - Pellegrini is only the second manager they've appointed. I might be wrong and he might have just fucked up, but that's how I interpreted it because Thaksin Shinawatra, John Wardle and Francis Lee's treatment of managers is irrelevant to the discussion.

Eds digging Prez out of his hole there

I would love to know which managers he was talking about when he said that they keep managers on too long though.

  13. Eds E Ames

    Well, you'd assume Roberto Mancini.

  14. BoyBlunder BOY Blunder

On the field record suggesting he was sacked too early really.

Obviously external factors are what the board are attributing it to but still nothing to base his statement on

  15. loganb JEM Logan

I'd hardly say 3 years and 5 months is keeping a manager on too long. Especially when he won the league season before the one just finished.

  16. BoyBlunder BOY Blunder

1 Fa Cup, 1 League title and runner up in both in 3 seasons. Not bad at all if you ask me when he started with a team who'd never won anything

  17. loganb JEM Logan

Well exactly. To suggest City have a record of holding on to managers too long (even the new owners) is quite frankly, ridiculous.

Surprised Eds tried to defend it tbh.

  18. Eds E Ames

They had the best squad this season and got no silverware at all. That would be understandable if the title race was close but it wasn't.

I'm not saying I'd have sacked him myself, but it's certainly an understandable decision. Pellegrini is the better manager.

On the basis of 1 manager sacking its not that ridiculous. It's not correct afaic but then that's a matter of opinion. I'm sure there are Man City supporters of decades who felt Mancini deserved to go, especially if you take the owners reasons at face value.

If he's trying to talk about City in history then it becomes ridiculous

It was a longer rope given to Mancini in comparison to other new money clubs, tbf. Or someone like Real/Barca who have track record of big big spending.

But yeah, in standalone terms or comparing to say Arsenal/United type of thing it was probably too short.
