No, I play him based on the fact that I still think he's good now. Seven games will not change my opinion of such a proven player.

From the Crusaders team, or from the NSW team?

He'll be dropped from the NSW team when his performances for NSW are unacceptable, and not a moment sooner. Such a ridiculously high quality player probably shouldn't be dropped at club level unless he has an entire season of failure.

Nah you've just got to stick with a guy if you know he's good IMO. Every player has bad runs of form sometimes - it doesn't mean they should be dropped. You pick your best players, not the players that have performed the best in the last 35 seconds.

I really couldn't disagree with more about anything, ever, if I tried.

This boils down to Proven ability. You rate it highly, i don't rate it as much :p

Decent squad, but why was O'Driscoll selected? I was assuming he was a NSWman, but why didn't he say so in the first place? Seems a bit dodgy that he can play for 3 of the 5 provinces.
Anyway, am I in the mix for a one-day place?

  4. Cribbage RG Cribb

You are. If you'd performed decently this season you'd be an absolute shoe-in for the eleven.. as it is now you'll still almost certainly still make the 25 but you'll probably fall short of making the final team.

You've still got four rounds to turn things around though I suppose.

Sweet. About time my inconsistent performances get some recognition :p.

I'll be honest - I actually have no idea who this Academy team is going to play yet. :p

However, I wanted to get it going. I've noticed that new members who are from GB seem to get much more involved in CricSim because they jump into consideration for the GB team as soon as they start playing well. The NSW team is pretty well settled and it takes several seasons of consistent performance to get in there, so I thought I'd give newer members from NSW something to aim for and discuss.

To qualify to the Academy, you have to have made your Bannerman Shield debut in Season 7, Season 8 or not yet at all. Fung and Herd are "subject to availability" as they're actually in the senior squad, and the Academy will probably play their game(s) during the rep season.

    Whats that squad for??
Is it the team GB will be playing or just a squad of players that you'll be interested in?

  9. Cribbage RG Cribb

GB will be playing New South Wales Second XI, which is different to New South Wales Academy. The Second XI players will almost definitely all come from the 25 named in the first post of this thread.

I dunno who NSW Academy will be playing yet. Perhaps Queensland Academy or something, although I'm not sure they'd actually be able to field eleven players.

Enter them into the midseason comp with GB, NZ and Victoria... a team NZ might actually beat :p

  11. Cribbage RG Cribb

Haha, it really should get absolutely mauled by serious opposition at the moment. Particularly if Fung or Herd couldn't play.

One really annoying thing was the fact that I couldn't select Welker. After playing, IIRC, two Second Class games he was picked for the last game of the season in the Season 6 Bannerman Shield when someone get injured. Thanks Tyson. :p

  12. Fungus K Fung

So it's a non rep game played in the rep season? Would at least keep it interesting for the newer members.

Captain sounds cool to me. :)

Umm, so I'll be in this side depending if I make the NSW Second XI or not, right?

  13. Cribbage RG Cribb

    Indeed.

I'm not sure when this team will be playing, hence you being "subject to availability". If you make the NSW team or the NSW Second XI and the Academy game(s) clash(es) with that, you'll miss the Academy game(s).

  14. Fungus K Fung

Does GB have enough for a second XI? If so, what about the Academy playing them?

  15. Eds E Ames

Good idea tbh. Although I would expect GB to win it. We have about 18 guys who are hovering or in BS IIRC.

Although the Academy Squad has a few players who are better than all of ours, I think our second X1 has a better all round team.

  18. MASTERS S Masters

are victoria going to play any matches?

  19. Cribbage RG Cribb

Actually, that's not a bad idea. It'd make more sense to have the team as "Great Britain Academy" with the same eligibility rules as the NSW one though IMO.. the team would be exactly the same as their Second XI unless they dropped players from the first XI who had played BS before Season 7.

There's no-one in that team Slogga just posted that wouldn't be eligible for an Academy game. I think the onlu players they have who would be ineligible are Whicker (won't be dropped to Second XI anyway), Smith (won't be dropped to Second XI anyway), Short (won't be dropped to Second XI anyway), Hornby (won't be dropped to Second XI anyway) and Nova (probably won't be dropped to Second XI anyway).

NSW v GB in an Academy series, FTW.

Would prove to be a good series imo. Helps promote more posting, as well as reveal potential talents.
