Fact is mate, English is not my first language as I am South African as most guys here know. Thus I pride myself with my obv proper English which in all honesty is pretty good for a second language, don't you agree?

Otherwise, if this is completely unacceptable to you, I will speak to you in my native tongue, which is called Afrikaans. And as Eds said mate, get over yourself.

Are you black/boer? Afrikaans is a mixture of dutch and english made to sound more phonetic if I'm right isn't it? Have a lot of saffas as mates here and they have generally said it's a second language and explained the history.

    What cunt!?!

Are you seriously trying to tell a South African that he's wrong about what his first language is?? FFS.

For the record, I've got two couples I'm friends with in NZ who are white Afrikaaner South Africans who speak Afrikaans first and English second. It caused one of them in particular no end of problems when he started working in NZ as the cultural difference is huge.

  13. Skippos SM Morgan

Nah I wasn't. I was just curious as to his ancestry given that afrikaans is his first. Was a curiousity thing.

If you had done your research properly you would have known that Blacks speak "African" mother tongues, which differs like day and night from Afrikaans, which is indeed a Dutch-based language. :glare:

It amazes me that one of your Saffa mates hasn't beaten you half crippled yet for such is our tolerance of stupidity!

  19. Droos JP Rhodes

Heef has given a prime example of decent Afrikaans right here.

Which means "very impressive" in English.

    Thanks Heef!

    Lol, brave man!

There are plenty Saffas in NZ and they all say the same thing i.e. that they feel very much at home there. Apparently there are even shops which sell S.A. merchandise and things unique to S.A. where they can suppress their nostalgia.

It is a very difficult language to fully learn, espescially the pure Afrikaans words which were not derived from either English or Dutch.

We make awesome mates and the best drinking buddies. Saffas will always have your back if you befriend them. We are naturally a good hearted people with strong family / friendship bonds and we are always in the front of the line when it comes to protecting that which we hold dear.

Damn, you cut me real deep just there, Eds, real deep!
