What actually is your arguement, you've been saying a multitude of different things which are loosely connected.

See, I was under the impression that batting position had a considerable impact on perfformance.
My theory being that even if Callum at 7 > me at 7 and Callum at 8 > me at 8.
Callum at 8>>> Callum at 7 and Marcuss at 7 >>> Marcuss at 8. Thus making the most sense to have us both batting in positions we prefer.
Obviously if batting position makes no odds then we're both equally as likely to fail in either position. Just I don't think that's the case. Callum averaged 40 batting at 8 this year, he's batted with the tail and earned himself a lot of not outs. Definitely better at it than I've been.

Well someone has to back up Marcuss I guess. :p

I would actually have batted me at 8. Not because Marcuss is proven more than me or anything but more due to me at 8. I do feel I have the ability to bat 7 however I have performed at 8, a lot of the time by sticking in there at the end, which I feel is an important quality and TBH Marcuss's lack of a ton maybe shows he has a slight inability to stick in. Which I feel makes me a better candidate to bat 8 than him. Really I would rate us pretty evenly with the bat just now, I think Marcuss will take over. But Me at 8 > Me at 7 and Marcuss at 8 ? Marcuss at 7.

Well thats my piece, pretty tired due to 2 hours sleep so it may make no sense. :p

That's just been proven to be a fallacy.

  5. Callum CJ Laing

GAGF it took me ages to type that due to tiredness so didnt see Cribb's posts.

Doesn't actually work that way at all. Not in real life (IMO) and certainly not in ITC. There are differences in batting positions, but when you get down to 6 and below, it's really just about who's more likely to make a contribution and who you don't want to see left stranded without a chance to do so. There isn't a batsman in the world who's genuinely more likely to bat well at seven than eight in a or vice-versa in a 5-day game IMO, unless they let it get inside their head or something.

  7. Cribbage RG Cribb

Marcuss's lack of tons really supports the case of him batting eight, if anything. Not that it actually shows he's inferior, but that he's likely to make lots of little starts and not go on with them - him getting stranded would be less of a shame than someone who always converts their starts being left on 30 odd as the opportunity cost would be greater.

  8. Baxter MJ Deane

    Me tbh.

  9. Baxter MJ Deane

Yeah but Callum has made a career out of getting to 30* and being left stranded, hence his high average. When he's had the opportunity to really go on on most occasions he's failed. His ton withstanding.

  10. Cribbage RG Cribb

Then argue that. Don't argue the ridiculous "well I've batted six two levels below this one so I should bat six or seven here too" case. :p

  11. Luffers JRE Luffman

    and that;s what i don't agree with.

After a season of FC cricket I have no doubts you'd be the GB 7 (if the same 11 players walked out) or even 6.

  12. Baxter MJ Deane

Well that's my fault for overestimating the influence of batting positions. As far as I was aware what I was saying was perfectly valid up until the point where you gave a giant \_/ to batting positions :p

  13. Callum CJ Laing

The fact I have a double hundred to my name would actually maybe say I am more likely to get a bigger contribution than you. :p

As I said I would probably bat you above me however I also know it probably wont make a massive difference to how we perform and also dont really care not really willing to fight my cause.

  14. Cribbage RG Cribb

Shows he should really be batting higher up the order if he keeps getting stranded then, doesn't it? Conversely, you always throw your wicket away after you get to 50 anyway so less runs are lost by you being 30* than Callum being 30*.

  15. Baxter MJ Deane

Well it's not so much as agreeing to disagreeing as you've made a decision and there's nothing I can do about it. Just if I succed at 8 and Callum not at 7, I can't see you switching us for the rest of the PC now.

  16. Baxter MJ Deane

No because if you read the second half of that post, when he's had the opportunity to really kick on.. he hasn't. He gets out for 35 or something. His ton being the exception and not the rule.

  17. Cribbage RG Cribb

Callum's (admittedly limited) record for GB is poor, especially with the bat. If he keeps failing and you do well at 8, there's no reason for Luffers not to swap you around.

  18. Cribbage RG Cribb

He's had significantly less opportunities to make a large contribution than you though, and he has more hundreds than you. All his not outs show he's been batting too low. Your ten fifties and no hundreds in the ALC suggest you'd actually be the perfect #8.

Frankly, it's a big step up. Callum's shown he can take on the best in the BS... and you've shown you can consistently knock up ALC fifties. Looking at this game in a bubble, there really is a better case to bat Callum at 7. As I said, the only way you could justify batting yourself ahead of him is saying that it's a better long-term option for the balance of the team.

  19. Baxter MJ Deane

Would love it if ITC gave the name of the batsman out at each fall of wicket. Just to see the number of times I've gotten out whilst hitting out batting with the tail.

  20. Baxter MJ Deane

Why is it expected that my bowling will hold up any better then? I did decently in a relatively bowler dominated ALC season. Then fluked a 5fer in a trial game.
