    RONCOS halfback Peter Wallace's bid for a NSW State of Origin jersey has been stalled by a groin injury which will force him out of tomorrow's night's NRL clash with the Raiders. Wallace did not train with the Broncos this morning with interchange specialist Ben Hunt running the entire session at halfback.
    Youngster Kurt Baptiste trained with the NRL squad, indicating he would replace Hunt on the bench.
    Dunamis Lui trained in suspended Ben Teo's place.

    I reckon you'll still win. Canberra only beat Auckland because the Kiwis didn't turn up.

    Canberra's pack is pretty fucking depleted. Fensom, White and Thompson all being out really costs the Raiders IMO. Broncos pack will get them home in a close one.

    Ah, that sucks. Wallace has been in very good form this year, being the chief playmaker and not 2nd fiddle to Lockyer. I guess now it's time for Hunt to make his case against Norman.

    Will be interesting to see how it pans out, I assum more of the playmaking responsibilites will fall on Norman. Hunt can play, but I think Griffin might try make Norman do more since he's been the second playmaker this season.

    The biggest problem I have with Hunt is that he has failed to deliver at NRL level as a halfback. He was pretty much a Joey Johns clone in the 2008 Toyota Cup.
    He won player of the year too, his contemporaries were the likes of Barba, Dugan and Cherry-Evans. Yet those guys have established themselves much better. I'd rather Hunt went back to QCup and played halfback for a season or so.

    Most of those guys moved up to play a lot of games in the Qld Cup/NRL which is why Hunt won it, you'd be silly to think he genuinely won that award for being the best player in the comp.

    Has he even gotten a start in the halves? Or in the halves at a full strength team before?

    Yeah, far better option than having him play 35 minutes a game as a below-par dummy half. Get Baptiste into the side on a full-time basis and have Hunt make it or break it as a halfback from the lower grades upwards IMO.
