    I agree with you, it's not rational, but you were arguing about Queenslanders in Origin being proud of their contribution to the state and one could argue the same for the general population. It just seemed like a flaw in your argument, or it might be the lack of sleep I've had. Either way that sorta stuck out to me and got me thinking :p

    Do donations actually help? Serious question. There have been all sorts of cancer research donations over many, many years, but I dunno how much it's actually helping, since there hasn't been much progress.

    Research takes a long long time. Last time I had a heart check up, they asked to take blood samples for research into heart disease, and I daresay a lot of people say no, so getting samples would be very hard and would take years I reckon. That's only based on my limited knowledge though.

    If no one donated we'd be years behind where we are currently, due to staff, equipment etc

    If theres suddenly a break through in 5 years time that without people raising/giving money would of taken 10 years or even just 6 years instead of 5 then it would be worth everything thats been donated so far

    Its not a case of when we get to this huge total of money cancers going to be cured obviously

    Theres also been quite a lot of progress in prevention, treatment methods, development and drugs etc
