    4-5 games I think. Don't think I should have included Tuimavave though, thinking about it now I'm pretty sure he played fullback.

    There were some pretty surprising players in the list. In fact, if you expand it to all positions there are some 168 odd players with more linebreak assists, many of whom are awful.

    This is largely my thinking. Put any half in a team with good forward drive and a host of creative talents and they'll look significantly better.

    The fact that Adam Reynolds is being talked up as a potential Origin player while Luke Walsh is suiting up for Windsor just highlights how much fans and the media base their analysis of a player on the scorecard and a brief highlight package of each game. People watch Reynolds put in a few neat kicks, soak up whatever some commentator says and then go away and continue spouting that BS to other people.

    Even if you believe that Reynolds is a better player than Walsh you couldn't claim that the gap is very great. And it certainly isn't great enough to justify the disparate levels of praise they receive.

    I think both are important really. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter that much if you're providing the tries off the boot or by hand, but if you want to escape "second season syndrome" (which lets face it is just a flat earth explanation for opposition coaches analysing your game) and take your game to higher levels against better defensive structures then you're going to need to be more than a one trick pony.

    It's ironic in some ways that Walsh is being held up as the poor unheralded vision-gifted halfback given it wasn't that long ago Penrith finished in the top 4 with the largest percentage of tries off kicks in history. Walsh was the good organiser+genius short kicker.

    Reynolds's short kicking game is going to eventually be neutralised to an extent and he's going to need to have something else to his game when that happens. We certainly shouldn't be writing off the tries he's creating off his foot as much as we seem to be but it's an important observation all the same.

    Even in that period, Walsh wasn't as miserly in the ball playing department. I mean Reynolds is fucking miserly to an extent I've rarely seen.

    He doesn't need to create linebreaks when he has John Sutton and Greg Inglis as his primary receivers when attacking who demand early ball. Maguire 's structure just needs him to give them that service. work with luke to get the forwards through the first few and put a quality kick in to finish a set.

    He does that great and as long as he has dominant 6 and 1 around him he's ideal.
