Still expecting to lose this match, but confident for the series now. Did Mal suffer a severe head injury since last year?
No. He's always been retarded. He's little better than Stuart or Daley, if at all. Given their tendency and inclination towards esteeming form, the present circumstances dictate the strength of their teams more than anything else. It's fortunate for NSW that those who should be picked, have largely been playing well over the last 18 months. You can bet if Tony Williams had been playing (supposedly) well, he probably would've been picked. Either him, and or Glenn Stewart. Counter-examples which reveal their latent idiocy spring to mind. In Daley's case, Maloney over Carney. Hoffman over innumerable others. And so on. To Daley's credit, he has recognised the need for more size with a greater contingent of props than either Stuart, and now Meninga. But don't count your chickens yet. If NSW lose, wait and see what Daley comes out with by way of changes.
He's never been a great coach, he even admits that, he doesn't need to be. Basically his only job is to not pick a retarded team, which he's done for 7 years, what's changed that he suddenly think going down the NSW route of a back rower in every position is a good idea?
Well, he has actually picked some dud teams. Or at least conspicuously bad selections here and there. Webb starting at prop. Hunt over Prince at five-eighth. Folau on the wrong wing. But yeah, he seems to have done a complete 180 from what he's maintained and instituted in the forwards. I half understand it. We have been found out defensively over the last 18 months. So I think it's a reaction to our poor defence. Unfortunately he's completely mis-diagnosed the problem.
Yes. The two biggest factors aside from personnel that's seen them dominate for so long imo is the fact they always picked a proper prop rotation whilst NSW didn't and their left fringe was a gold mine for them in attack Mal has gone and tampered with both...
McQueen and Teo to be implicated in the Burgess incident and be suspended, bringing Kennedy and Hannant into the team.
Why make him 18th man then? I could understand it with Kennedy; he's a young prop who they rate (I don't really, but that's a matter of opinion) and hasn't played Origin, so he could've learnt something for the experience even if he wasn't next in line. What's the point of a making an older player with multiple Origin caps 18th man unless he's next in line? I think he absolutely is next in line, and while I think he's better than Kennedy there's a massive gap IMO between Hannant, Shillington, McGuire and him.
Queensland by 10. They're bloody lucky they're playing in Brisbane though. That side in NSW = automatic loss.
If the refs don't bottle it in front of a home crowd we're a good chance imo. I'm quietly confident we might sneak a win here. Would be so good.
They will get some hometown penalties (like most sides do) which is the biggest worry imo, we need to be really disciplined. Once they're inside the 30m zone they've got enough talent to lay on points I just think we've got the superior pack and if we can dominate field position like we should be able to we'll starve them of good attacking opportunities.
