SBW made the great-offload that turn the game on it's head and then dominated from then on.

I would've been happy if Moa won it. Was praising the cunt all night as I have all season. But that's more to do with prejudice against front rowers, not because he's a Kiwi or any of that shit Fiery is going on about. SBW wasn't overlooked because he's a Kiwi. He was overlooked because he put the Roosters under a lot of pressure and played a part in their deficit after 50 minutes.

Williams having a "horrible first half" is something you just made up...idiot. He played well in the first half and owned in the second half.

  4. Magic AJ Parker

I actually called SBW at the game. At the end of the day, when the game was on the line he stepped up and won the game.

    His involvements in deciding the game eclipsed any other players bar potentially Moa but it's never going to go to a front row forward because in the words of Bob McCarthy;

    Which is a ridiculous premise.

    Okay, I made it up.

    Fuckin lol! Hahaha

    Fucking MF

I don't like this sort of mentality because it so easily discounts the bad he did. The fact that he played a part in winning them the game still has to be weighed against his effort in the first 40. Cherry-Evans didn't have a comparable negative of that sort. He took some poor options but he didn't regularly turn the ball over as SBW did.

Cherry-Evans played a huge part in getting Manly the biggest lead of either side all night. I don't think his performance should be tarnished by the fact that they couldn't hold onto it.

I wasn't talking about the margin; I was talking about the actual result. The actual result is that Easts won. Take Cherry-Evans out and Easts still win.

You could make an argument for giving it to David Williams though. :p

Considering how Pearce has once again choked in a big game, does anyone think Roosters will really struggle with their attack if SBW leaves?

  11. Magic AJ Parker

lol what was wrong with his performance?

He kicked well all game, he set up a try when we really fucking needed it, he challenged the line all night and he came up with at least 1 or 2 try savers.

He wasn't brilliant but fmd you say I'm the most biased cunt towards Pearce...

Yes but I don't think it's fair to imply that, say, DCE's two line breaks mean less than SBW's because the latter's ended up winning the game and the former's didn't. If phenomena totally unrelated to the two players changed the result, by your logic, that would necessitate a complete reevaluation of the two contributions.

In other words, I don't think it's fair to place such importance on Williams' second half efforts simply because the game was there to be won. The game was there to be won all night and certainly when Manly were down by 2 when DCE, along with others, started the resurgence and helped them to what probably should've been a match winning lead.

End of the day, they both dominated different segments of the game but again, you have to weigh the good vs the bad. Who knows if Easts would've been in a position to take lead in the first place if Williams hadn't made those errors. I'm not saying he was the reason they were losing at one point but you know what I'm getting at.

Yeah. It's not actually relevant to the point I made that you were contending though.

At the end of the day I'd never give a MOTM award to a player from the losing side even if he produced the greatest performance in the history of game because I just don't see the award like that, so DCE was irrelevant to me. It was down to Moa or SBW for mine. So I certainly don't think it's silly to suggest SBW should've got it or was in the running.

  14. Fiery GR Smith

Oh well. At least Dale Cherry-Evans (or whatever his chavvy name is) can cry onto his hollow Clive Churchill medal. SBW was the biggest influence on the game and he held the trophy aloft

Just saying that if instead of Michael Jennings scoring that last try Brett Stewart picks it up and runs the length of the field and Manly win, it would have to follow that your estimation of SBW's performance would drop, which I think is just plain illogical/unfair.

Yes, well, I'm not going to get into that one........again:p

  16. Cribbage RG Cribb

His performance wouldn't drop at all; I just don't see MOTM and best performance as the same thing.

  17. Toolman TR Man

DCEs mini speech was the closest thing to him showing personality I've ever seen. For once he didn't sound like a fag trying out to be school captain.

  18. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Regardless of what you choose to call it, you were arguing the merits of who played better, were you not? If not, what distinction do you make between MOTM and best performance?

  19. Cribbage RG Cribb

When I compared SBW to Moa and every other Easts player in my original post.. yeah. When you brought up DCE in reply to me, no

MOTM = biggest positive influence to the actual result of the match.
Best performance = biggest positive influence to his side's cause, irrespective of the result.

DCE had 0 positive influence to the result of Easts winning the game.

Haha. Fair enough then. Gotta say, that seems like a pretty shitty award.
