Surely There's a gun young half about to breakthrough for NSW, we're well overdue.

Gidley is irrelevant though. We're only talking about the spine.

    Brain freeze.

Agreed but we're talking at cross-purposes. Minichiello came in because of injury. I was comparing the Dugan side which essentially means we're comparing Soward and Hayne and how they would fit into said spine.

    1.Dugan
    6.Hayne
    7.Pearce
    9.Ennis/Farah

    is no better than

    1.Dugan
    6.Soward
    7.Pearce
    9.Ennis/Farah

Depends who's coach if it's Stuart then no way in the world.

Scary to contemplate that Daley would probably come into serious contention, then anything would be possible.

Gidley is part of the spine; he comes on to play hooker for part of each match.

  8. Cribbage RG Cribb

Well I think it's still better tbh.

We're not comparing a side that contains Gidley to one that doesn't. We are comparing the four starting players in the spine.

Yeah okay but for Game III this year Gidley had to play a lot of Ennis's role and for Game I, Young started.

.........Hayne strikes me as a stand-off who will be gun at club level but would be a failure at rep level. His predictable no-look, cut-out passes and general ball running won't really work closer to the ruck and against much better defence with less time, IMO.

Fullback is a lot less demanding. He can play second fiddle and chime in when it suits him. Asking him to do it regularly will turn out like the Jamie Lyon, Mark Gasnier experiments methinks.

So the side with Hayne in Soward's stead is better because Gidley will be playing his normal role?...

  13. Cribbage RG Cribb

Well that's part of the reason I said it was better, yeah.

Ignoring all that though, I think Hayne would be a better partner for Pearce than Soward. He's just a lot more creative and dangerous in general IMO which is what you need with a one-dimensional, strictly organisational player like Pearce.

My preference is definitely for Hayne to play fullback and Carney to play five-eighth, FWIW.

    Kelly.

  15. Julian BJ Taylor

Reckon we made a mistake in not picking Carney based on 'poor form'.

Dogs negotiating with Stuart. Daley to coach NSW.

  17. Alec AD Funkotron

Stuart was the best coach NSW had in years. He's a faggot, but he knows it. Brought some more passion to both sides. Daley is a faggot, but he'll be one of those non-threatening ones you feel sorry for.

    Stuart was overrated.

    Based on what?

I mean, I agree he knows Origin better in terms of it's emotional meaning but as far as successful strategy and player selections, he was, in many ways, even worse than Bellamy.

  20. Magic AJ Parker

He's been injured tbh, pretty sure he's delayed surgery until the off-season but a groin injury for a ball running 5/8 is a pretty big handicap.

He couldn't even kick goals until a few weeks ago.
