Mark Brights old man was my coach for awhile at Marist, Mark was just a skinny, goofy kid back then, turned into a really decent player. blatant name dropping
Also Trafalgar Park >> Lansdowne Gazza.

Have barely watched any rugby in the last two years. I'm getting back into it, even stooping as low as watching that terrible player robbing franchise rubbish, and I have nfi who half the players are. I take it most of New Zealand is currently in France on big money contracts?

    Good man.

They get a bit longer to finalise their squads and they're much harder to find. I know someone who works in the NZRU judiciary - she's tasked with checking player eligibility and shit like that for all the NZRU teams, so I'm hoping she can give me the squad listings.

What I do know is that Wairarapa Bush have lost some quality players. Jeremy Te Huia, a decent first-five option for this level - has gone to Wellington. I'm really interested in seeing who King Country have got this season after they had Tanner Vili and David Peachey on their books last season.

Just read that Wairarapa-Bush are holding a couple of games in Carterton rather than Masterton. Might head to one of those. (Local derby vs. Horowhenua Kapiti on the 17th September at Carterton sounds superb)

EDIT: Heartlands kicks off on the 6th August.

Keen to see how Gareth Anscombe goes

  7. Mike ML Martyn

He is a hell of a goal kicker that's for sure.

Seems unlikely there's be two Steve Kefus. This one has come from Wasps via Castres, but played half a dozen tests for the Wobblies back in the early Naughties.

And there's plenty of young players to keep your eyes on alongside Ainscombe. Declan O'Donnell looked good in the sevens - an exciting prospect. Luke Whitelock down in Canterbury. Nafi Tuitavake at Harbour. Baden Kerr for Counties. Richard Buckman looked useful for Hawke's Bay last year

More Whitelocks coming through the ranks

Luke Whitelock is a good mate of one of my flatmates. Skypes him and shit.

Hey, Botsy, I just saw that Frano Botica is coaching King Country this season. Any chance you could scrag me a King Country jersey ;)

  13. Jabba HJ Bots

I would if I actually had met him :ninja:

I'm from the botica clan of the south, everyone in the south island is a direct relation to me either 1st or second cousin etc, I haven't met any boticas who live in the north island

He is from the boticas of the north, I am still related to them but alot further down the line like 3rd and back.

Also they are maori integrated I am not :flex:, hence not fitting in and our fierce rival for new zealand continues

    Dammit. Was worth a try.

  15. Roaddogg AJ Izett

thats cool, wont end up a fasilure like when fats coached them though will it?

  16. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

I bloody hope not. They've got a pretty woeful record of choking of late. Hope they can put that behind them and at least secure the Lochore Cup this year.

  17. Roaddogg AJ Izett

yeah itd be cool to see them in the top one, is that the meads cup?

be wicked to see us win the trophey named after our most famous player

  18. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Yeah, Meads Cup is the top one. That'll be either Wanganui or North Otago again though I reckon.

  19. Roaddogg AJ Izett

oh yeah true, those two really need to be a part of a revamped 2nd division

probably get swamped though with all the added experience teams like manawatu and that have gained from the itm cup and its various variations

  20. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Yeah. I dunno. It's only 10-12 years since East Coast nearly got promoted to NPC Division 1. It would be good to see the Meads Cup winner play-off against the bottom placed Championship team. My understanding is that most of the Heartlands teams aren't interested in competing at that level any more - they simply can't afford it!
