    Almost every game this year has the losing team being buttfuzzled by the refs. People always say that they still would have lost, but that doesn't stop the refs from buttfuzzling them.

    Completion rates don't exist in a bubble. You're far more likely to make errors if you're behind on the scoreboard and being starved of possession and/or territory. The refereeing was a joke IMO and although I find conspiracy theories that suggest it was deliberately in favour of Souths laughable, it obviously did end up in favour of Souths to a massive degree. There's no telling what the completion rates would've ended up as if the game was refereed to a higher standard.

    It's been a surprising response actually - even on league unlimited (plz don't ban me k) most people are pretty pissed off with what happened in this game. Less surprising is how little has been made of it in the mass media. Radio have been going off about it, news limited and channel 9 have hardly mentioned anything was amiss. Helllo all Sydney grand final.

    Went to the game, thought it was a really poor quality game.

    Souths defence was admirable, along with their go forward and completion rate it was enough to win but they were far from convincing or impressive.

    Melbourne were poor on so many levels. I think the most annoying thing if you're Bellamy was their decision making and inability to adjust to what was working in the game because they had enough ball in Souths 20 to win if they were good enough. Far too often their ball players played out the back and didn't hit the lead runner yet every time they hit the lead runner they looked dangerous.

    Hoffman being used in yardage sets shits me no end too, you're not fucking Greg Bird if you're gonna take hit ups run hard and straight.

    Yeah but this is just so ambiguous. They were behind on the scoreboard after 8 minutes. Not because the refs were "buttfuzzling" them. But precisely because they couldn't hold onto the ball. Your logic when taken to it's extreme, suggests that had the refereeing been equitable, the completion rates would not have been dissimilar. I just don't think that's the case at all. I think it was a text book case of a trait that has crept into Melbourne's game this year. They play with far less patience, and far more risk. They make many more errors nowadays than what they did in years gone by with their supposedly boring, mechanical play.

    Of course I can only speculate about the motives for this alteration, but that it exists, I think is beyond reproach. I think it's a conscious move on Bellamy's part to keep them from going stale or becoming too predictable.

    In fact I openly hate the club, having started an anti-supporter group precisely for that purpose. :laugh:

    I'm stoked Souths won, don't get me wrong. The refereeing ruined the game though. Definitely not going to go as far as KK and say Melbourne definitely would've won regardless but it was just a farce IMO.

    Pretty accurate description of what went down. Didn't seem to be a lot of teamwork going on. Playing Hoffy as a running forward is dumb, especially with the size of our other blokes. I like Tohu Harris in the centres by the by.

    O'Neill getting tackled by Inglis when charging for the try line was the highlight of the game. Superb try saver, a weaker fullback would have gotten steamrolled.

    Pretty sure it was O'Neill who got fucking pumped in ther back by burgess leading up to the first try as well.

    Thuis game went exactly as I predicted. Souths just rolled up the field and scored tries on the back of that and Melbourne just aren't that potent with such a mediocre at best forward pack.
