Honestly do not know who to pick in this one. Obviously favour Souths because it's in Sydney but they have traditionally struggled against Melbourne. Both teams have been out of form for a few weeks now. I really think Melbourne's edge runners will trouble Souths' fringe defenders who have been pretty ordinary. Melbourne are a team that knows how to exploit a slow-moving defensive line which is what Souths employ. On the other hand, the Storm's left side defence has been decimated over the last month or so and I think McGuire ought to target it with Inglis running second man plays, often as a decoy to suck in defenders. I'll go Souths by 4.
Melbournes weak left edge defence will be canceled out by Souths even weaker right edge attack. Reynolds ball playing is laughable for a halfback, he might get some joy if they rush up too quickly with the kick in behind but I reckon Slater will be anticipating it alk night.
I agree Reynolds is a muppet halfback as far as ball-playing goes but I will say for him, knowing about his kicking game and stopping it are two very different things. Easts couldn't stop it. Only Walker's retardation prevented them from going 18-12 up last week.
Souths should be hungrier, have the home advantage, better side over all and monster pack. I Souths if they score in the opening 25, if not I'm backing some ill discipline to creep in and Storm to come away with it.
I thought his kicking game was very well nullified, only time I've seen a team do a better job on him than that was at ANZ against Melbourne earlier this year. The kick for walker was a poor one, it should of been easily defused by Mini.
Even if all of that were true, which I don't think it is, but were it true, it doesn't change the fact that he managed to create a try with the kick. It's like Thurston's show n go. You can defend it well all night but it only takes one lapse. In tight games, it can be the difference. I don't think it was a poor kick, anyhow. Minichiello made excellent position but the bounce and speed necessitated a pretty incredible pick-up. To say it should've been easily defused is a bit silly IMO. Very harsh on Mini I think.
Nah it's not harsh, it's first grade. At the least he should have trapped it with his foot and dived on it. When you kick it straight at the fullback, it's a poor kick. If the fullback fucks up then it's not brilliance on your behalf. And outside of that kick he had absolutely no joy with his kicking game. Have you watched the game in full?
A fit Widdop is a better option than a fit Finch, Widdop was just starting to find his feet when he got injured. What he provides is an additional running option to our attack which has been quite bland against the better sides.
Was a possibility of O'Neill milking a penalty from that Burgess hit if he fiened an injury. The tackle was more or less completed and it was a 3rd man in situation.
