xbox 360 gave up the ghost this morning. Had nearly managed to get all of the achievements in Fallout 3. Just needed the Neutral/Evil character @ Level 30 achievement (easy to achieve both at the same time). Was at level 25. xbox is out of warranty by one month apparently, but Microsoft have agreed to fix it for free (as it's the known issue with them and their website never let me register my xbox as it doesn't recognise Kiwi postal codes!!). Presumably, the hard drive is a-ok, but I have no idea how I can get the save games off as I'm worried that all they do when you send your xbox back is that they give you a brand new one and thus I lose all my save games. Should be back before I receive Fallout: New Vegas. So, it would have been worse if it went in a month or so. Hadn't logged onto xbox live for ages, so I've lost about 1500 achievement points on Alan Wake, RDR that I'd built up since the last login. Sigh.
You reckon? They'd go to the trouble of swapping my hard drive into a new console? Seems unlikely. Fingers crossed, though. Anyone with any idea how I can back up to a hard drive? I've got an old PC hard drive that still works that I could somehow link it up to if someone can give me a few pointers how you can do it? Not particularly upset by it as it's a fairly old xbox and it was always going to happen at some point. More of an annoyance, and if I can save the stuff on the hard drive, then I can easily live without the thing for a month or so.
Particularly interested in saving my ME2 save game where I'm about halfway through on maximum difficulty without having changed the difficulty or cheated. Obviously, I've died a billion times to get that far, but would be gutted to lose that save.
C'd. They did it for us the first time we sent away, and the second we didn't even have to send the hard drive to them.
Ooh. This sounds like good news. Did you have to ask for the hard drive swap or did they do it as standard?
Right, right. I'll make sure to ask. I did mention it on the phone to Microsoft earlier, but the chick was a little vacant.
Hmm...my old burned copy of Xenosaga Ep I seems to have died and dual layer DVDs are ****ing expensive. Might have to give Xenosaga a miss. Also sounds as if burning it to DVD-9 is pretty much impossible anyway.
****! It's a bad day for Heef's computing today. Just tried to play FM10 and am getting parse XML errors every time I click a sodding button. Fuming right now. Looks like I'll have to resort to playing the original Fallout, which I started about 18 months ago and haven't touched since.
Hmm...apparently I can download a version of Xenosaga split into 3 single layer discs. Guess I'll just do that.
