Don't worry, MF is carrying that torch.

He wasn't robbed of best on ground though......

Having watched the full replay a couple of times now DCE's performance has been so overstated. His support play and running game were very good and his two linebreaks just after half time resulted in a good lead but outside of that I thought he over-read the play alot, kicked pretty poorly and really failed to steer the side when they went behind.

I thought Foran's pass selection and decision making was far superior and there was a lot more structure to their attack when they ran plays down the left.

Just like SBW got the motm award the week before, DCE won the award because of his name.

He was definitely the best player on the night IMO. His running game was spot on. Made two breaks himself, and broke 8 tackles, the most of any player on the field and for a halfback that's pretty incredible. The main criticism I have was his, and Manly's, choice to kick to Tupou. That was just mind boggling. Particularly when on last tackle you'd think another raid on Easts's struggling right side would be the better option. But it was a period in the second half that won him the Clive Churchill medal. He was in absolutely everything for Manly. Created the Lyon try, made two breaks, showed great composure to slide one into the in-goal after some disorganised play to get a restart and just in general looked a class above the other play-makers. Deserved recipient afaic.

I don't know whether that last line of yours is serious or not so I'll leave it alone.

DCE was best on ground, IMO.

Yeh it's 100% serious, there's heaps of buzz around DCE at the moment. And rightly so he's a top class prospect, heaps of people were tipping him for the CCM in the lead up to the game. I have no doubt in the world his name played a part of it.

I dunno I just think it was a really weird choice, at the game I thought Manly looked far better on their left edge and despite a few pieces of individual brilliance from DCE his play looked disconnected from the rest of the team. He looked really tentative over his decision making and was playing well before the line which was dumb-founding given he'd broken the line with ease on two occasions.

Individually he was good, as part of the team, meh. I guess it is an individual award but that's not how I'd decide it tbh.

Fuckin muppets. SBW was best on field by miles

Bob McCarthy (on the selection panel) reckons "he (SBW) didn't show up until the final 10 minutes".

Just proving they probably didn't even watch the game.

He definitely showed up a lot sooner than that but his first 50 was very dire. 3 turnovers as I recall.

Yeah it could be chauvinism and racism. Or it could be that he just didn't play very well in the first half and a bit. I don't think even Magic believes SBW deserved it. That article is pure tripe.

The real chauvinism is from the author and the idiot that posted it here on Cricsim.

Shut up you muppet. Your credibility on league matters was destroyed when you wrote the Roosters off so early.

I'm going to go against the grain of the other serious RL posters here and say that SBW would've been right in the frame for me.

In the first half he lacked involvement, and the involvement he did have was generally loose and frankly outirght poor. However the Roosters almost certainly would've lost if he didn't play IMO and I don't think you can say that for any other player out there. The positive influence he had on the game in the second half definitely outweighed any negative influence he had in the first half by a long way IMO. He turned the game almost by himself.

Moa is probably the only other player I would've considered.

Was it? So when was yours destroyed? Oh right. Vatuvei.

Debate the issue at hand or STFU. More personal shit and you'll both be cockblocked.

You could say it for Cherry-Evans certainly, IMO. Manly aren't in that game if Hodkinson is out there instead of Cherry-Evans. Both Moa and DCE were better IMO which is why I think it would've been a joke had SBW won it. He really contributed nothing in the first 50 minutes aside from errors and loose play, as you mentioned.

I don't mean in as value before the game - I mean the result would have literally been different if SBW didn't play. The result would've been exactly the same if DCE didn't play because Manly lost anyway...

Nor do I. Manly would've lost by a lot more if DCE didn't dominate a section of the game which was just as impressive as SBW's and wasn't offset by a horrible first half as Williams's was.
