LOL .....if Ash Graham wasn't so long in the tooth, HE'd would've taken Boyd's spot!

Fourex you've lost the plot on this one. Slater is not Folau-like deadly in the air, he can really struggle under the high ball at times. That and he is just deadset no good near the sideline. I'd probably have a nervous breakdown if he had to be stationed out there for a full game.

Yeah. You can just imagine the cunt trying his luck every time he had a tiny bit of space on the outside ala the 2008 WC Final. Fuck that.

You know I really have to laugh at this .......Slater has probably scored 2/3 of his tries catching a high ball on the run

    and done it brilliantly.

I'm no Slater fanbot and do concede to some weaknesses in his game, but I'll be damned if I'm going to listen to the cricsim think tank tell me that he wouldn't make a better winger than Darius Boyd.

    It's ludicrous.

Interesting then that he's never scored a try from a bomb in his entire Origin career. He's set up two that I can recall but that's it. He's cost QLD more tries from bombs than what he's produced for us.

Needless to say, that is absolutely nothing like Folau who was rock solid and had one of the best leaps you'll ever see and was an ever-present weapon for our kickers out on the right.

What's ludicrous is to say that a bloke who largely failed there as a player and hasn't played there in nearly 10 years would do better than a bloke who has been a proven stalwart for QLD's left flank for 5 years now and who has an imperishable partnership with Inglis and Thurston.

I think it'll be interesting to see what QLD's forward pack looks like in 3-5 years time.

    Hannant is 28, Myles 28, Scott 28, Thaiday 28, Shilington 30, Smith 30 & Parker 31.

I'd say Mcguire & Papalii look like exceptional prospects and there's some really good options at dummy half in Segeyaro, Friend & Srama but outside of that it looks like slim pickings.

Mcqueen, Gillett, Guerra, Kennedy, Tasi, Ridge off the top of my head really wouldn't fill you with a whole lot of confidence.

There are a few very promising Broncos forwards coming through in Oates, Timu and Molo. Not sure about other clubs, but I'd imagine there would be some too. 3-5 years is still a long time away.

I'm pretty hopeful that Dave Taylor will pull his head in as on his day he's a walk up start.

  9. Mr Fourex MR Fourex

Hmmm ....."largely failed there as a player".

From memory he was man of the match in his 2nd game on the wing for QLD. Scored 3 tries from 3 games....for QLD....on the wing. Plus I think the famous chip and chase try was scored as an interchange player.....on the wing.

I seem to also remember a great try saving effort on Tahu....on the wing

Considering he only started on the wing three times, it sounds to me like they're credentials for wing play that could even rival the great winger himself, Darius Boyd !!

Anyway, Slater on the wing is a better proposition than dropping him altogether in the event that we were to play GI at fullback.

Inglis playing fullback for QLD simply must happen......

    You're mentally retarded.

Some of those listed could still be playing in 5 years time. We've got plenty of time to bring new blokes through. Who knows who will break out by then? I think we're in pretty good shape with: McGuire, Papalii, Gillett, McQueen, Kennedy, Guerra, Bukuya, Taylor, Te'o...

Both sides look in terrible shape if you fast forward 5 years down the track and only look at what's left over. Do the same for NSW and there's no Gallen, Lewis, Gidley, Watmough, Farah...

  12. Mr Fourex MR Fourex

Not sure if you've purposely forgot Teo, but overall you're right. There's a few positions looking skinny in the years ahead and I think NSW have QLD well covered in the future.

This reign of dominance won't go on forever........

I'd rate Lawrence and Cooper ahead of those backups you named.

This is the sort of stuff people say about Hayne, who was also a failed winger, regardless of what the typical consensus says. Go back and watch how he defended on the wing. He didn't have a clue and was caught out of position half a dozen times in the three games he played there. I recall, the try saver on Tahu. Do you recall the missed tackle that gave Tahu free passage to the line in that same game?

No it's not. It's downright idiotic and if you did it and Slater got found out (as he would) it would be grounds for immediate termination as a selector or coach.

  15. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Yeah but Lawrence is 29 himself.

  16. Alec AD Funkotron

If you look at the spine, NSW lacks a bit too, mostly in the halves and hooker (who do they have there after Farah, Rein?). 3 years is just a long time in the NRL.

  17. Mr Fourex MR Fourex

    Nahhh .........but moving it along,

    So let's say;

    1. Inglis
    2. Boyd
    3. Gagai / Chambers
    4. Tate
    5. Slater

you'd rather drop Slater and play O'neil or Neilson?

  18. Mr Fourex MR Fourex

Speaking of mentally retarded ......wake the fuck up.

    Dave's not coming back.....ever.

  19. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Yes, I'd drop Slater. I thought that was made rather clear.

Fortunately I'm not forced into that decision and thus would keep Slater and Inglis where they are.

I'm going to make a speculative bet and say Mitchell Dodds and Joel Riethmuller will wear the maroons jersey at least once.
