Samsung, LG or Panasonic are the way to go.

    Ain't touching an LG.

Favouring Samsung atm, looking at a 64" Plasma for about 2.2k or a 55" LED for around the same money.

I'd personally go for a Samsung. I have a Samsung in my room - which I only use for gaming but all the TV's in my house are Samsung's. I find brands like Sony, the sound is really tinny. Haven't had any problems with Samsung but you know, generally these days, you can't go too wrong.

Heard a lot of bad things about Sony.

You have to be careful with plasmas. What's the lighting situation in the room it'll be in?

You wanna get a backlit LED imo. I don't know if it's still the case but when we were getting our TV way back when we were advised off Plasma because any kind of TV+ you have with live pause can damage the screen if you leave it on for too long. Something about burning the image into the background. I was fairly young at the time so not entirely sure on the actual facts behind it.

We now have a backlit LED Samsung which is just awesome. Looks good too

LED all the way. I researched this a little while ago as well when I was buying a new TV and was told Samsung make the best displays. Point being, Samsung, LED with the highest Size to HZ ratio you can get.

The issue you're alluring to has been solved in almost all cases I believe. Plasma's now have a flicker function that moves the orientation of the picture say 1mm per min so the human eye can't pick it up and the "burn in" doesn't occur.

Not sure how exxy they are but I do like the Sharp TVs I have watched tv on.

    Fair enough.

Wrt size, how big is the room. I think you can actually reduce quality by getting a TV too big for the room

Will sit about 4 metres away from TV.

Yea I was gonna say you don't need a big tv if it's in a small room

Not sure yet until we move in, natural light will come from windows all around the room. Glare will occur for a short period in the afternoon, 2 -3 pm I'd imagine through lovers in the raked ceiling. TV will sit in a nook set back 600mm, with two LED downlights above.

We're a tad excessive these days IMO.

$200 odd for an 81 cm is what I got.
