Will the new sim have any difference between tighthead and loosehead props? Also, will there be any difference between the two flankers? I suspect that you could code in some difference if you were so inclined. Tighthead to be more heavily weighted towards technical props, maybe, as an example?
The two props and flankers will play different roles. Obviously the loosehead will usually get more involved in pick and goes, and the #3 will usually be the scrummagers. Both will play a big part in tight defense, though. As for the flankers, the openside will usually need to be smaller and nippier than the blindside. The blindside flanker will be the crash ball flanker mainly, with the openside making charge downs and ball winning. There could also be a difference between the two locks...
So, with signups - should there be separate signups for tighthead/loosehead and blindside/openside otherwise there seems to be very little to determine whether a player will be better on a particular side of the scrum.
Based on the registration template you'd just say you're a prop (for example) but preference for loosehead/tighthead would depend entirely on whether you specify being a scrum specialist or a mobile prop (tighthead/loosehead respectively) - opting for balanced would give you a shot on both sides...
No, I don't think that would be needed tbh. There will be a certain randomness towards the stats assigned, and obviously the positions will have an effect. Also, the special ability will have an effect, and so will the type of flanker/prop they choose to be.
Yes. I get that, but its not like there's a bag load of stats you can set to build a preference. The difference in performance when playing tighthead vs. loosehead when you've set your prop up to be one or t'other will be negligible, yes? I'm not saying that's an issue, btw, just trying to think of how these things will work in the Brave New World.
There's not a bag load of stats to choose from, but that's the way it is. It's good you're voicing your 'concerns' with it, ftr. You will be able to tell who is the better loosehead or tighthead. You can also be different types of loosehead by selecting different special abilities. For example, if you pick Super Speed on a loosehead you turn out a bit like Tendai Mtawarira, and if you pick Super Strength on a loosehead you turn out like Andy Sheridan, for example.
Interesting, interesting. So, if you play a prop with poor technique as a tighthead, he'll perform badly? I'm just trying to work out whether there's a different set of criteria that determine whether a prop will perform well as a tighthead vs. loosehead or whether its all about skill combos. Basically, if you had two props - one who is the best prop in the game, but his talent would be wasted at tighthead, and your second prop has "killer technique" but has no post count - who would perform better on the tight and the loose?
