I actually bet on the Cowboys, win a couple of hundred bucks, but I don't think the coach sacking had much to do with it. I think the phenomena is based around teams lifting for their new coach when he comes in mid-season after an immediate sacking; not teams lifting for their departing coach after the announcement.
I think teams lift just as much because they feel partially responsible for their coach being sacked tbh.
They don't really rate his endurance just yet. Was the same for George Burgess when he first came into first grade. He'll start getting more minutes as plays more games and gets fitter. It really is going to be a nightmare coming up against a starting middle third of Burgess-Burgess-Burgess in a year or so when they're all capable of playing 50-65 minutes a game in the role.
No doubt. But it doesn't excuse Reynolds's shitty last tackle options. Tonight was a good example of what I think he'll be like in Origin if he doesn't have things go his way and if his kicking game isn't on. If he has a good platform on which to work, than yeah he'll may do better than Pearce. But you think he's going to do any better if he doesn't? I mean if his kicking game doesn't translate from club level, what good is he?
Tbf most halves would be terrible at Origin level if their best attribute didn't transfer from club level...
Was good to see the Cowboys win the battle of the forwards. Scott was awesome. Cooper ran hard too and nearly scored a couple of times. Tariq showed a lot of what he's capable of.
Surely that's one of the things which makes the difference though. If Thurston's running game isn't on he still has the pass and the kick. If he doesn't have the pass, he has the run. And so on. If Cronk doesn't have his passing game going, his kicking and general play will still be there. If Reynolds doesn't kick well, he might as well not be there. Relative to the other options NSW have, yeah he's no different, but he's even more one-dimensional than Pearce, is what I'm trying to say which means that if his main facet isn't on, the you might see an even worse form of nothingness than what Pearce has shown. It's just so hit and miss I think.
