South Sydney coach Michael Maguire hasn't ruled out using Michael Croker and Roy Asotasi as co-captains at the NRL club in 2012.

Maguire shared the stage with Crocker and Asotasi today for the launch of next month's Charity Shield between Souths and St George Illawarra.

The rookie NRL coach said he would make a call on the captaincy in a couple of weeks.

"I'm still talking with these guys (Asotasi and Crocker) and many other players about which way we want to go but at the moment it's still up in the air," he said.

"I've got a reasonable idea of which way I want to go but I'll decide that in a couple of weeks."

When asked about dual captains for the Rabbitohs, Maguire said: "I'll make a decision in a couple of weeks ... I've been talking with these two quality people next to me and over time we'll come up with which way we want to head."

Crocker took over from previous skipper Asotasi in May last season when the New Zealand prop suffered a season-ending wrist injury with the Rabbitohs struggling in the bottom half of the ladder.

Backrower Crocker warmed to the captaincy as Souths narrowly missed out on making the finals despite a strong finish to the season.

"I've got that leadership tag now, so whatever decision is made, that won't change. It's just about me doing the best job I can for the team and leading by example, " Crocker said.

"I'll still play the same way, there will be plenty of talk."

The captaincy is the last thing from Asotasi's mind; he's just happy to be fit again.

"I'm just concentrating on training and trying my best to impress the coach," he said.

"There's a lot more stuff to think about than worrying about the captaincy ... it's nice to be fit and be able to get stuck into the pre-season."

Asotasi has been impressed by his new coach.

"He's unreal ... but you don't want to get on his bad side," he said.

"He's come in full blast and is looking to turn things around and all the boys are working very hard for him."

The Charity Shield is on February 18 while the immediate focus for Souths is a trial against English Super League club Warrington at Redfern Oval on January 28.

Clark and Reynolds Extend Contracts with Rabbitohs
    10 Jan 2012

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have rewarded two local juniors with contract extensions today, with utility forward Jason Clark extending his contract for seasons 2013 and 2014, and halfback Adam Reynolds extending his contract until the end of 2013.

Clark, 22, has played 36 first grade games to date after making his debut in the cardinal and myrtle in 2009. A former captain of the Rabbitohs’ Toyota Cup side, Clark has impressed everyone at South Sydney with his dedication to the Club and his leadership qualities.

Reynolds, 21, guided the Rabbitohs to the 2010 Toyota Cup Grand Final and is set to make his first grade debut in 2012. A former Peter Sterling Medal winner, Reynolds has been earmarked to take the step up to NRL football this season.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire is excited to see these two young players extend their tenures at the Rabbitohs.

“These are two young guys who are local juniors, home grown products, that have come through the system at the Club to reach first grade level, and to have them as part of our squad over the coming years is exciting,” Coach Maguire said.

“They are a big part of what we’re doing going forward, and I’m sure our Members are as excited as us at this news of their contract extensions.”

Clark is pleased to have signed his extension today.

“It’s a dream come true for me to represent the Rabbitohs every day whether I’m playing, training or helping out in the community,” Clark said.

“My whole family and I have been Souths fans our whole lives and to be able to extend my contract for two more years at this Club was a no-brainer.

“I’m really looking forward to the season coming up and hopefully we can do everything we can to make our Members proud.”

Reynolds is pleased to have secured his future for a further season.

“I’m really happy to be staying at South Sydney for another year,” Reynolds said.

“I’ve been working really hard in the pre-season, as have all of my team mates, and hopefully I get the chance to play first grade this year and pull on that famous red and green jersey.

“I’m a South Sydney junior and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the Rabbitohs.”

BE afraid. South Sydney superstar Greg Inglis has told those close to him he intends on having a "breakout" season in 2012.

And as our photographs from Rabbitohs training at Redfern last week show, Inglis is looking in career-best condition.
Weighing in at 105kg, the South Sydney Test centre is among the throng of Rabbitohs players to have enjoyed the benefits of an off-season under new high performance manager Troy Thomson.
A close confidante of new coach Michael Maguire from their time in Melbourne, Thomson has added 3kg of muscle to Inglis since the Test star returned to training from the Four Nations Tour of the UK.
It was a completely different story this time last year, when Inglis was restricted from training due to hip and groin injuries and a battle with the NRL to get his Rabbitohs contract registered.

Back then, he tipped the scales at 111kg.
"Greg's looking in good shape and that's all I've asked of all of our squad, to present themselves in the best possible condition prior to the start of the season," Maguire said.
"Hopefully Greg can continue to do for us this season what he's done throughout his entire career."

Reckon Madge will run him at 6 or 1.

Gonna be an epic centres battle in Rd 1.

    Hearing Moga will start RD1.

i fucking hop he doesn't play him at 6. but i don't mind if he plays him at 1, but with the way merritt finished last season i think he definately gets first shot at playing there.

He's no fitter, he's just grown some stubble to give his jaw line the illusion of definition.

The pre-season fixation with Greg Inglis's weight and general health is bordering on creepy.
