Seasonal Rugby: Suggestion Box

This isn't a thread for improvements to the sim (go to the New Sim Wish List thread for that).

What I'm looking for are suggestions for how the sim structure could be improved. We've got six first grade teams and seven reserve grade teams, 4 provincial teams and 4 regional teams. Does this work?

    Any other suggestions considered.

I don't know that everyone even knows how it all works except for peeps like Howe and GF who follow it closely. I don't know who the 4 provincial team are for example - but I do know that I play for the crabs, NZ, and Souths. I have also played for NZA in the past so I suspect that is regional team.

I know there is also test rugby on top of all of this.

I reckon it is a lot of representative rugby and must be a lot of work for you. I would probably be more lazy - and drop norths vs Souths (how well followed was this), drop the lower level international comp and just have
Australia, GB, NZ, and Asia who ever the 4th team is

I would also keep the test match.

I do like the club competition with a senior grade and a reserve grade and I was really engaged by that.

I think North vs South's lack of interest wasn't so much a function of the match itself but more of the site. I definitely don't think it should be scrapped.

I personally don't give a fuck about any North v South stuff and would be quite happy to be shot of it all.

I enjoyed the provincial competition, in part because of the underdog position of the BaaBaas. Getting us competitive was a good challenge and quite rewarding.

Club structure's fine as it is IMO - on the face of it the Immortals seem completely pointless but I'm not going to gripe too much about it. I would've seriously considered applying for the 6th team but for it to have been successful I would've had to butcher 2 teams to do it (and that's assuming everyone I wanted to join would've joined.) Might want to consider combining clubs for reserve grade if we're all struggling for 30 players.

Wouldn't lose any sleep if the subprovincial stuff was killed off either, although that might be because I'm not involved with it.

I actually really enjoyed the preseason tournament we had to test out the new sim and I'd support a similar short exhibition tournament or 7s tournament or something a bit different.

Ultimately the biggest thing impacting the sim is Cribb being a lazy cunt and putting both CricSim and RLSim on indefinite hiatus. Which is a shame because this is easily my favourite sim on the site. Sadly we don't have enough rugby peeps to sustain the sim on its own.

edit: one other thing I would add is that I think the sim could be scheduled better (for lack of a better word). I'm not trying to criticise Heef in the slightest here, and I appreciate this isn't always doable given what life can throw at you but I think the sim would benefit if we had a more organised schedule. Obviously I don't know just how difficult the actual simmage is or how time consuming it is but it's something I'm willing to try and help with if I can.

How many active players are there really? Enough for 13 teams?

Not currently, but there certainly has been in the past and as Furball has alluded to, the hiatus of other parts of the site has seen a lot of the long term membership go AWOL who would have otherwise signed contracts for the sim.

And with this, if anything the situation for Season Six will be worse than Season Five. If anyone wants to volunteer to broadcast matches (much as Howe, Mariner and Tart have done for Season Five) then I'd be happy to accept them on board. Then you can schedule the match for whenever you like.

And finally with the Sub Provincial tournament - the mix of NSW, Vic, QLD and Asia just doesn't work.

NSW are too strong for the comp meaning that the other 3 teams lose interest. In theory, we now have enough contracted players in the sim to add an Ireland team. If NSW were split between NSW City and NSW Country and Ireland were added in, we'd have six teams and a more even competition.

However, I still don't like the way that players from this comp - especially Australian players - get an extra match over everyone else. So, if NZ and England could be split in two, and/or a Scottish or South African team could be created then a two division 8 team competition could be the way to go - with promotion and relegation.

Good luck splitting New Zealand :p

IMO sub-provincial is pointless. Just get rid of it.

    I could help here. :)

  12. Furball G Furball

Somehow skipped this one. I'll gladly help out.

I suggest a simpleton averages stat sheet to be included in the OP for provincial games to help people who don't follow teams other than their own to understand who the better performers have been this season

Name : Games Played: Running Meters: Broken Tackles: Line Breaks: Tackles Made: Tries : Kicking %:

    This.

if you split NZ in two and play another set of matches, I will be more concerned about my player getting injured than winning that additional comp.

Asia and all those other sub provinces qualify for the Baabaas anyway.

Happy to accept more broadcasters. I'll add you to the SRG subforum and you can see what the situation is.

If we get a bunch if dudes who can broadcast,
We could maybe organise set times each week/fortnight, and someone will be available to do it.

So people know that each round there'll be a game at 8:30pm Friday, or midday Saturday etc.

    Maybe?

  17. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Yeah, that'd be the only way we could get a schedule out. If I simmed a whole round's games en masse then the broadcasters could create the threads and organise when a game would be shown. That might work.

Obviously fuckers would have to be on top of lineups and shit too.

Would probably alternate a week of club and a week of rep. (Assuming the rep structure stays the same)

  19. Magrat Garlick M Garlick

With activity being what it is I think it'll be good to set a fixed time when people can check in and there will be (barring upload failure) simmage.

  20. Tartmaster AJ James

Yeah would hopefully see a better turnout for the games.
