Duck Lewis 7 Middle Order Batsman 17 NSW caps BS Season 8: 1086 runs @ 45.25 FC Career: 9941 runs @ 42.30 NSW Career: 1371 runs @ 45.70 Usually a number five at club level, Lewis has a mortgage on the New South Wales number three spot. He has one of the most bizarre Origin records of all time, having scored just one hundred in 17 games but maintaining an average in excess of 45 due to a ridiculously consistent tally of 15 half-centuries in that time. Strangely, his record for the Ravens this season tells a completely different story with four hundreds - including a score of 225 - and just two fifties. If he can combine his former consistency with his new-found ability to convert, he'll be an all-time great.
Matt Hayes 25 Middle Order Batsman 19 NSW caps BS Season 8: 1152 runs @ 42.67 FC Career: 10299 runs @ 48.13 NSW Career: 1280 runs @ 37.65 Once compared seriously with Brett Gemmell, Matt Hayes has slowly but surely come back to earth, averaging in the low to mid 40s for three seasons running. His First Class record, as such, is a little flattering, but there's still no denying that he's a quality bat with an assured spot in the New South Wales lineup. His record for the Blues was actually poor early on but while his club form has wavered in recent seasons, his performances for New South Wales have improved, possibly due to a fierce rivalry with Queensland player Ged King. One of his assets is his ability to score big runs quickly so Queensland will have to be wary of his ability to take the game away from them in a session or two.
Surprised Hayes' NSW average is that low. If he has another average season (and others step up), he may be under pressure.
I'm actually hoping I make the squad, just as a backup... Don't want to fall completely off NSW radar.
Alan Parker 27 Middle Order Batsman 13 NSW caps BS Season 8: 1197 runs @ 42.75 FC Career: 8510 runs @ 44.32 NSW Career: 1163 runs @ 50.57 One of the most under-rated batsmen in CricSim, Parker has taken to representative cricket like a duck to water, boasting an average of 50 and three hundreds in his first thirteen games. He rarely gets mentioned when people bandy about possible Test teams but his record backs up any claims he might have to a spot there. A superb player of spin, he'll bat five and look to take on King.
As I said, it's been getting better in recent times. Plus, we don't have anyone else - look who played for Possibles, lol.
