Microsoft surely have to be up to something. A multi-billion dollar company surely can't be voluntarily giving market share away.
All gaming will end up cloud based eventually anyway, see pc gaming, while you can buy CD's, who does that anymore. Buying a full prices single player game from steam from release no one is worried they can't then sell it back to a store. It's not terrible that they've tried certain changes. Its terrible that they've tried so many changes all at once
I hate the idea of not being able to play console games without the internet. Fine make all purchases online, at least then you will be able to take your console to an internet source somewhere... but having to log in online to actually play the damn things is shite
There's still a massive difference between Steam and the XB1. 1 - You pay sfa on Steam for games. 2 - You can play them offline. If the XB1 was a completely digital console then you'd have no problems with the no resale thing. But since the majority of people are going to be getting a disk for their game it makes sense to allow them to sell it on.
You still pay normal price for games that have just come out on steam though don't you? The offline play is obviously the biggest setback for the whole of the announcement from xbox, I don't think anyone disagrees with that But you still can sell your games on at certain retailers can't you? Don't know how it will work with you essentially only owning a liscence.
That's not what cloud gaming means. It's more like streaming a video, except your inputs are also sent to the server. The servers will be processing the game so the game isn't limited by how good your hardware is. It's what SimCity sort of does. Personally, I don't see cloud gaming having as much of an impact as the the hype suggests.
Nah it's about half the price as console games, and comes down in price really quickly in the following 6 months
This is a completely seperate point to xbox/ps discussion But do you think the steam drops in prices/generally low pc prices are swayed somewhat by how easy it is to pirate games, and if they wern't at a low price people would still get them but just for free instead
Disc games epitomise consoles IMO. The day consoles turn to cloud gaming is the day that consoles will die.
Part of it is that, part of it is because of the heavy competition between the various online games retailers. There are about 5 or 6 big online retailers that are all vying for consumer money and they do this through massive sales. The lower prices and constant sales have reduced piracy though, especially when games go on sale for $5 a couple of years after being released, or $20 a few months after being released.
Consoles paved the way for multiplayer gaming with your mates in the same room, nothing will ever beat the days of taking games over to a mates house and playing for hours. It just wouldn't be the same without disks, would be pretty gay to say I uploaded the game to the cloud and gave you a licence to borrow. I just like tradition and hate the direction technology is heading if you can't tell
You can just go to your mates, log in and play your own game through there console with the way this one works So the point isn't really valid, and they're not suddenly going to stop multilayer gaming on the same console
Consoles have been trying to phase out gamers actually being able to interact face-to-face with their friends while playing multiplayer for a while
It's more about providing an alternative I believe. The Wii U is still all about crowding around a tv and playing multiplayer though :ninja:
