    I don't know whether it's been mentioned but Robert Lui signed a one year extension with the Cows. I really hope that he's been signed on a low paying contract because as far as I'm concerned he shouldn't be in the side next year with Coote, Thurston and Morgan available.

    Definitely not going to be worth whatever we're paying him, especially when you consider we have McManus, both Mata'utia's and Mantellato as well. There'd be a backlash but we've got other positions that need that cap space IMO.

    Losing Uate would be a pretty big win for the Knights. He wouldn't even figure in a list of the top 20 wingers at the moment and he's probably one of the top 5 highest paid. Rumoured to be on about 500k a year.

    The only man desperate enough to take him of their hands would be Ricky. I reckon the blokes phone will be ringing off the hook all off-season with clubs offering him under-performing, over-paid players. Uate is just the first.

    Yeah but in that case a club like Canberra doesn't just frantically say 'yes, we'd love him at full price'. They'd negotiate a split payment deal and if Newcastle budged too much they'd just offer someone else the money and back juniors like Hawkins and Brenko Lee.

    After signing Soliola on less than half of what they offered Proctor; If they get Austin, decide on Wighton as fullback and sign Uate on 350 or so out of 500 then they're fucking laughing compared to: Proctor on 800 and Tedesco on 6/700

    And I posted this here weeks ago but a few others in the Canberra media have said while Williams is not confirmed on paper, he will be at Canberra next year. My head is swelling at the possibility of a Williams- Austin halves combo.

    I'd be much more excited about the prospect of Austin than Williams. I fear sooner or later you're going to realise the latter just isn't as good as you'd originally thought. The fact that he was superior to Ben Hunt in the lower grades, an opinion I noticed you intruded the other day, really doesn't mean anything at all. Brett Seymour was better than Thurston in the lower grades. Hodkinson was better than Cherry-Evans. And so on.

    Whether Williams blossoms into a genuine, FG standard halfback I don't know. But I wouldn't be counting on it at this stage.

    Anyhoo, I'm happy for Canberra because Austin, though he too is somewhat overrated around here, is a great buy. Just a shame he and Brooks never got a real run together at the Tigers.

    Yeah I agree with everything you just said. I just think Williams has more potential than Cornish is all.

    If it pans out Austin signs and wears 6 all year and there are options at 7 which is more than I'd originally hoped for.

    And who said Hodkinson was better than Cherry Evans in the lower grades? I have no idea what Hodkinson was like as a junior but I fell that was just fabricated to add to the argument./
