A question has arisen around allowing minor changes in registration to reflect the more fluid nature of roles in Rugby compared to cricket. I'd like to know people's thoughts. I'd only allow a maximum of 5% change per season and it'd be restricted to similar roles. For example Prop <-> Hooker <-> Prop Flanker <-> #8 <-> Flanker Wing, Centre, Full Back all interchangeable. Half Backs, First Fives, Locks - no interpositional changes allowed Changes between different types of your position would be allowed within one position type. (i.e. Mobile --> Balanced, but not Mobile --> Scrummaging) If you have a utility rego, for example, I have 95% Lock, 5% Wing. I could transfer my 5% Wing to Centre, but couldn't transfer any of the Lock to any other position. If I was 50% Metre Making Lock, 50% Balanced Lock, I could only transfer 5% from Metre Making to Balanced, or 5% from Balanced to either Metre Making or Scrummaging. Finally, I would allow place kickers to practice. This would allow a place kicker to invest in using up to 5 attack or defense points into place kicking. This would reflect that player investing so much time at practice on place kicking that they've effectively neglected their open play. Allowing changes would be a hassle for me, so if people want this to happen, they should try and convince me that it's a good idea. I'm very happy to hear that I should abandon it. Would be good.
I think it's an excellent idea. Very, very good. As long as you don't go over the top on what to allow people to train, and make sure it's crystal clear to everyone what you can and can't do, then I think it would work very well. Although, I disagree that the fly halfs, halfbacks and locks can't transition to other positions. They would all easily be able to if they had some 'training'.
I don't want people to massively alter the sort of player they are. I guess there's an argument for Half Back <-> First Five, but I don't want people trying anything silly.
If it's only 5% as you say, it's not going to alter their player much at all. Look at the likes of Ben Foden, who can play scrum half and full back (played 9 for Sale on various occasions), Toby Flood who played at 12 against France in the World Cup, Mauro Bergamasco - a flanker at 9...
Look, I agree with you that it happens in reality Eds, but I think there's a risk that people will try and manipulate their rego if I'm too flexible with the adjustments allowed.
Like you mentioned in the OP, as long as it remains realistic and people aren't being stupid about it, then I think this is agreat idea. The percentages you mentioned are fine, as anymore than that and it could cause problems or damage the integrity of the sim.
It's only 5% per season, though. If they wanted to properly 'manipulate their rego' they'd need 10 seasons at the very least. This is just for small changes over the off-season which is entirely realistic, and yet, doesn't make much of a difference.
WTF? I've told you about not asking me random questions that make no sense before. I literally have no idea what you're asking me. If this happens, you will be allowed to transfer a total of 5% from any positions you currently have in either your Primary, Secondary or Tertiary positions into any closely related position, as long as you do not exceed a total number of 3 different types of position.
Just make sure your questions make some modicum of sense before you post them. I had no idea what you were actually asking me with that question.
I thought it had sense I didn't understand the first post very well but since you explained it i can understand it alot better.
It's a great idea I think. It helps a lot if someone signed up and as the season has worn on, they've regretted doing one thing or another, like me for example! Great move Heef!
So, theoretically I could become a 70[FB]-25[wing]-5[centre] utility back and go to 60 attack, 35 defense, 5 goalkicking?
Yeah, AWTA. They'd be able to become back row easily, I reckon. Only position that shouldn't be transferable into is front row, IMO.
