New Sim

    It's not actually that it's hard, it's just that there are so many ****ing different situations that can happen in a game of rugby.

    The problem will be interrelating one outcome into the next in Excel. It's easy to do stacked ifs, random number in a certain range, but BarStar looks at each part of the service on an individual basis - one event does not determine the outcome of another - which would be very different for a Rugby Sim.

    I think you'd have to determine the player stats first - compare the forwards and convert that, with an element of randomness as well, into the amount of opportunities the backs would get, and then compare the backs to determine how likely a team was to convert its opportunities into tries. Then add in penalties again depending on the quality of a pack, discipline of the players etc.

    After the player stats were determined you could have another couple of cells analyse them and produce a scoreline.

    You couldn't actually have a proper play-by-play sim that ran the game as such.. it'd have to just be result-based like the current RLSim.

    I've already worked out a number of really simple formulas to get player stats from the Registrations, I did that ages ago.

    I imagine I could probably produce a spreadsheet with all the Player Stats; that'd be a good base, I imagine.
