yeah his performances pre operation were very good but not damaging. he was on one leg. since his clean up he has been unbelievably good. I'm so happy we retained him.
I think Watmough's been pretty good. I haven't got an issue on people picking him, just they way he's being talked up is definitely ott.
I've picked Mateo based on the last 2 games. stupid I know but I haven't seen 2 better displays from a club second rower in a long time. I absolutely love him to death as a 60-70 minute second rower. he probably shouldn't make this team I guess, but it's just a throw 'together team I did on my lunch break.
Watmough doesn't play in the second row though. It's a fair question, whilst I don't think Papalii performances over the first 12 rounds are really deserving of being in team of the year second rower I genuinely can't think of anyone else.
Watmough pretty much plays exclusively as a lock these days tbh. Manly even had Buhrer out wider on the fringes at times because of it, which was pretty odd.
I think Bird has been really good in the games I've watched. But I've only seen ~3 Gold Coast games this year so I couldn't seriously put him in there based on that.
I think Todd carney is at the moment. my love for him as a five-eighth is well noted on this forum, but I think he was a much, much better player between 6 years and 18 months ago. I don't know but it seems he's lost quite a bit of weight and plays almost exclusively laterally.
He's definitely the most inconsistent player. We win when he turns up, when he doesn't we get towelled up like we did last night. His previous four weeks before last night we're unreal. His lateral play is a strong point of his game IMO, but that's the inconsistency in his game. If he gets it wrong and plays too laterally it's just the pits. Predictable.
Bird and Hoffman have both been really good IMO. I'd definitely have Papalii and SBW ahead of them but they've been strong.
