SUNSHINE Coast product Casey McGuire is set to return to Australia next year.

The former Queensland and Broncos utility is keen to end his career in the NRL.

McGuire, 30, was set to retire at the end this year after serving out his stint with French-based English Super League club Les Catalans.

However, his Sydney-based manager David Riolo says the former Kawana Dolphin is keen to return home and play on for another two years.

“The clubs over in England and France would still have him because he's still playing some good footy,” he said. “But he's just looking to return to Australia.

“Nothing's popped up just yet. If he isn't able to get a club over here, I'm not sure what he'll do.”

McGuire was a member of the Sunshine Coast “Class of 1980”, which also included fellow Origin representatives Chris Flannery and Ben Ross.

McGuire debuted in the NRL for Parramatta in 1998 before shifting to Brisbane the following year. He was a member of the club's 2006 premiership-winning side.

He earned his first representative honours in 2005 as a member of the Queensland Origin side, which lost that series 2-1.

Riolo said his client had enjoyed his time at Les Catalans since making the move overseas in 2007 but he was keen to raise his young family in Australia.

“He's had a ball over there,” Riolo said. “But he's got young kids and he's just looking to come home.”

Riolo said there were no offers on the table but he had only started shopping around for his client.

He said McGuire had his eye on returning to Queensland, specifically the Brisbane Broncos, but was open to all offers.

It is unknown if the Broncos would have room on their roster, with young guns Andrew McCullough and Ben Hunt slotting into the utility role.

Good to see him come back regardless of where he goes.

Wouldn't want him at the Broncos.

Neither as it would mean the end of Hunt or McCullough or both. But some other team might find him useful.

I'd take him at the Broncos on a minimum wage kinda thing.

He'll be handy for whatever team pick him up. Can play halves, back-row and centre.

    Past it.

And hooker. He was always a five-eighth though really; just never got an extended run there for anyone.

Was extremely under-rated in his time IMO, don't know how he'd go at NRL level next year though. Worth a squad place for a team though.

    Incredibly shit.

Never really held a position down. I actually have no idea where he'd play now in the NRL. Probably lock for a team. Jason Smith style.

Shane Perry and Brett Seymour got picked in front of him in the halves. 'Nuff said.

Always thought he was decent tbh. Could still be a good bench player, something most teams don't have IMO.

Always thought he was a solid player, wouldn't want him at Penrith though.

My money is on him ending up at the Dragons if not the Broncos, wouldn't be a bad signing for the Broncos come origin time, cool head amongst the rooks.

You wouldn't want him at Penrith? I wouldn't mind him tbh. I havent seen him play since 2006 but still i would quite confidently say Burns > McGuire >>>>>>>>> Graham. Would be a handy player.

He would walk into the top 17 in pretty much any NRL club.

He would work well for someone like Bulldogs, he has been playing some good footie as of late and is turning catalans season around along with the halfs and fullback
