Tell that to all the Chelsea fans who were furious about his leaving. He was loved there... you don't get player of the season two years in a row without being a class act and he's more than justified his transfer fee afaic
At the point we signed him, Fabregas wasn't available (not that he'd sign for us) and we needed someone right then. A bit overpriced but he hasn't failed us and has been a great player already for us.
Agree that Mata was worth every cent paid for him. He has been the 1 constant light in the tunnel for United this season imo. Compare his transfer to Fernandinho that City bought in 2013 for 34million and you will never be able to say that Mata's transfer was overpriced.
Tis what Google says. "Fernandinho was so desperate to join City that he paid a £4million chunk of his own transfer fee! The Brazilian midfielder was unveiled as the Blues' first signing of the summer yesterday, with his former club Shakhtar Donetsk holding out for a huge £34million deal."
According to this site, it was actually 40 million! http://www.transfermarkt.com/fernandinho/profil/spieler/26267 In which case Mata was a fucking bargain for Utd at 75% of the price Fernandinho was and Mata is only about 3782% better than Fernanfucker. Hate that cunt.
Reckon we paid slight overs for Mata, but then who can tell with the way prices are increasing these days.
Mata was worth signing up when we did. We clearly have the money to throw around. The problem with Mata is that to function properly he requires the rest of the team to be built around him. I think going forward it will be hard to fit Mata in the team. He just isn't versatile enough.
The fact he's fitted in so perfectly on that right hand side when realistically that's his 3rd position would beg to differ though. I think in time as our football gets more pretty Fellaini will be phased out which leaves that LCM position to be filled. In it's current state the two players in our squad best suited to that role in a "keep it on the ground" style of play would be Mata or Di Maria
Fellaini is the sort of player you want to bring on in the last 20. He gives the option to play in a different style so I think it is worth keeping him around.
