Was part bad luck, part stupidity. Like I said, had weldone been anything else, people would probably have listened to sledger.

2. Shiv CD Ochocinco

Dire. I tried to side with Hedger although I guess I should have been more vocal

3. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Yes. You had enough evidence to know he wasn't bullshitting and you tried to back him up but needed to be more vocal.

For the record, TheShiv received this report regarding Sledger on n2

You investigate Hedger. He received the following message. "You successfully investigated Baxter. He is a person. You did not find Sarah at the specified locations."

Not exactly conclusive, but sufficient there to know Hedger was a human.

4. hedger OX Gbagbo

Goddamn it Shiv.

5. Athlai JJD Heads

Hadn't Howe already confirmed Sledger was human?

6. Escath LE Schaw

Maybe people should pay attention to scum tells rather than follow the report

Must mention that I tried killing Eds first and then Howe on D1, before killing Tkp when Heath told me neither Eds nor Howe was in the same side of the fence with me.

Mafia's game would be incredibly easy if Eds was gone at that time.

8. weldone RM Chowdhuri

O man! TheShiv absolutely had to persuade town about hedger after this.

Disappointed to have died so early, but figured one of us hunters was screwed when it turned out that the n0 write-up had nothing it do with Eds/Escath.

WP Eds

Nice assessment

You were completely quackers with your use of the fences.

Perhaps...

13. HeathDavisSpeed HT Davis

Did they bring you up before the beak, or did they instead present you with a massive bill for the trouble you put them to?

Indeed BoyBlunder, indeed.

Haha. I did actually think of this when we had our back and forth because on principal that is the stance i would take outside of a game situation. But i also believe you play the rules of the game that youre part of and if you agree to play in a game that has a rule you dont necessarily agree with, half way through the end game is not the time to take a stance. If it bothers you that much dont play when theres that rule and make a proper effort out of game to have the no character claim rule put in as standard.

I was always going to use that rule to the max because i was in a situation where i was 2/7 with no information haha. I needed as much info as possible

Ooh snap!

I like the idea of a no cc rule but find it pretty unenforceable, especially as I'm not an admin/mod.

Giving the Mafia good 'free' characters I've decided is a happy middle ground to stop it leading to automatic town win.

I think every game ive played with has had weird issues with the no cc rule. What happens if you want to own up to doing something in a write up when its obvious who thr character is? It happened to me in sw maf where my padmae decoy was killed - i had to check with Eds via pm it was okay to come out and claim it was me who was kill attempted before doing it.

I think your method of having large themes with a big selection of characters and no guarantees every main character will be in it is the best fit. Then you have a high risk high reward mafia strategy available and some townies with weak character claims. Last game both Cabinet and AVA had stronger character claims than i did imo which was a good compromise.

If the theme has limited character pool then you cant do this though so i would be all for enforcing the no cc rule there 100%

I think mafia having roles that could plausibly be town helps as well. The last game had an interesting dynamic where there were 2 rival mafia factions which helped with this sort of role; both myself and AVA were caught out lying by a fellow maf.

Having a free character is a good start but a switched on town then just needs to ask what you've been doing and unless you've made an effort to try and spin a web of deceit throughout the game, your claim can still get stuck.

I've been toying with the idea of letting everyone choose their roles after a fashion, to completely get rid of the "that sounds like a mafia role, let's lynch him" argument that's propped up a bit in places.

This is a case of town winning with brains rather than by default which is the way it should be. Traditional mafia is mafia trying to kill off town's ability to logically sort through the puzzle while town races against the clock using it's availbale abilities and what;s happened in the game to work out who's on their side and who's not. Character claims add a layer which if not acccounted for by the mod can effectively allow the town to win by default just from discovering the shit claims. The job then of the mod is to bring the game back to as close to the traditional scenario as possible whether it's through outright banning claims or, as Howe did successfully last game, leaving key characters out and throwing a number of "weaker" characters at the town.

I actually really enjoyed Howe's compromise because there was no clear advantage of claiming within the scope of the game (which wasn't explained at the start) but it was still possible to marry up claims with powers and find out the truth from what had happend. I think it was a pretty balanced end game within that ruleset
