Foxtel NRL Shows Thread

    We don't really have a thread for this so I thought I'd start a general one we could use whenever they brought up an interesting point or something.

    But anyway, it's fucking nuts that they're not bothering with Matty Johns this week even though NRL 360 is still going to air. Ikin is so bad on that show.

    I'd probably say the reason for that is that it's too risky doing it as they don't have the security of guaranteed decent ratings off the back of MNF.

    They would have 360 etc to preview the upcoming round.

    Yeah it was a retarded decision to replace him as the host of NRL of Fox with Phelan. So bad. I can understand it more this year with Johns and Sterlo on board and Phelan fucked off, but Ikin having a show still makes it stupid.

    Agree about Ikin.

    I think the decision to not include Warren Smith really comes down to him not wanting to do it.

    Yeah it's obvious why they've done it, but NRL 360 doesn't get MNF carry-over ratings either, and it's a much worse show. Should've just fucked off NRL 360 for the week and put a replay of Matty Johns on on Wednesday night. They could've previewed the round themselves instead if that's what they wanted the show to be this week. Just such a better panel than Ikin and Kent.

    NRL 360 is garbage, I've only sat through it once. I can't stand Ikin and Kent can GAGF!

    Yeah. Sterlo was the only new show that was created the others were just replacements of already existing shows. Except for The Back Page that is just a revamp.

    Yeah pretty much. I wouldn't say NRL on Fox necessarily turned into NRL 360 though; it's a different show. NRL on Fox in the Smith/Daley/Freeman era (2009-11?) was a fucking great show.

    What have you heard?

    I think his contract was just renewed and there was massive talks of him defecting to Channel 7 if they won the rights so he had all the leverage and he got the terms he wanted. Not sure about before that.

    I heard he wanted to keep doing it when Phelan came in, but Foxtel thought he was too opinionated (see: actually knew something about the game) to be a non-former-player host, so they went with a media stooge (see: Phelan) to just ask the other blokes questions. Then when Phelan got the arse (pun not intended) they offered Smith other roles but he basically told them to GAGF and said he'd go elsewhere unless they gave him the same pay rise they were offering to just call the games.

    The ending sounds about right. The first part makes sense too. Haven't actually ever asked anyone about why Phelan took over but can find out pretty easily. Probably what happened though.

    NRL 360 is fucking trash, I refuse to watch it. Don't get me started on how badly they fucked the Back Page.

    Sterlo Is the best show.

    Nrl 360 should be replaced by an analytical show IMO. Sort of like fosters segment on the world game where they show highlights, freeze screens, track players etc.

    I'd watch an hour of that every single week.

    I'd like to see that analytical show with Gould, the johns brothers and an ex first grade coach doing 2 games each.
