They will play him at 6 and Gordon at the back.

There's nothing good about it, we're probably paying nearly all of his contract for the next couple of years, Barba's is a big one as well.

She hasn't turned out half bad for us, Gallen gets a full preseason with no rep footy, extended break. We re-sign Bukuya who was massive for us, questionable for NZ but here is hoping he recaptures Sharks form. We were looking at a salary cap black hole with Carney gone and while I would 100% rather Carney on our books, Barba is still not a bad option.
For a club who has had ASADA lingering for 2 years + all the other off field shit. Shares are up.

    fair post.

fact your backline is nsw cup standard means sharks will end bottom 4 afaic

  6. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah this is a must IMO. I actually think Brown is a better half than Barba anyway.

  7. Wilson SB Wilson

Yep, Barba will play six with Robson at half to start the season anyway. Brown will start off the bench but it won't be long before he replaces Robson. He's a gun

Any info on how much of his bill we are covering?

    Fucking

Surely that's a load of horseshit...

    Probably close to $800,000 a year.:p

Robson is a better half than Barba though. Robson/Brown is definitely your best halves pairing. Barba should be able to play closer to his ideal playing weight now that he has escaped Griffinball, so getting him more confident under the high ball and sticking him at fullback is by far the best option IMO.

  13. Magic AJ Parker

800k is a fucking shit load but its exactly the type of risk Cronulla needed to take given their squad.

  14. jazman84 JM Eightyfour

So we can expect to see him on Shark Week then?

  15. Wilson SB Wilson

Couldn't disagree more. Holmes should and will be the fullback come a certain time in the season and should be the fullback for the next decade. Barba shouldn't be anywhere near the position.

  16. Cribbage RG Cribb

So an $800,000 a year reserve grader then?

Barba is a rocks or diamonds fullback, but he's just a crap half. You're never going to get any value out of him there.

  17. Wilson SB Wilson

Well I disagree about him being a crap half. I find him to be currently serviceable with the potential to be actually pretty good.

  18. Julian BJ Taylor

He's not worth 800k as a 'safe' option in the halves though is he? If you're paying that you want him winning you games and he does that from the back. Unfortunately for Cronulla over the past 24 months or so he loses you more than he wins.

  19. Mr Fourex MR Fourex

    Yeah....you feel like this now.

Give it a year in your teams colours and you'll feel different.

I think we've seen all there is to see of Ben Barba and in 2-3 yrs time...he'll eventually fade away into RL obscurity.

  20. Mr Fourex MR Fourex

He was going to be on 350K for the first two yrs and a reported upgrade of 900K for his third.

Not being quite sure how it works, but.....I'm thinking we're chipping in for 350K next year and 100K the next?

If the player was not providing any value anyway, then it's better to offload him and save "some" money then to keep him and pay the full amount.
