    Yeah, got it in one.

Wouldn't it be easier for other teams to match the activity of the Crabs rather than overhaul 3000+ posts from their opposite number?

Since when is Baxter = other teams? I don't think anyone can really complain about it beyond saying that it would result in a dire season 6. All this is provided that season 6 actually happens.

Best to be diplomatic about these things.

You're probably talking about each subbie having something like 50 more posts a day than they currently have.

  5. Himannv LV Himann

I hear you're quite the connoisseur when it comes to diplomacy.

  6. Cribbage RG Cribb

    No it wouldn't.

  7. Himannv LV Himann

The Canes will match that. You're forgetting that we have Prez.

You guys should be getting injured more. It's always us who bear the brunt of Injury sim. We're always the escape goats.

    Plz.

If you can't see how the Crabs fundamentally differ from every other club in any simulation on this site, besides the Cnuts, then it's entirely pointless having this conversation.

I don't think I'm too far wrong in saying, in a somewhat generalised manner, that every other side has been formed out of an interest in the sim first and foremost whereas the Crabs were founded out of Heef's need to eliminate the bye and a secondary motive to increase active membership on the forum. Obviously the first was successful but I'm not going to agree the second was when, being generous, only half of the members contribute much at all outside of the subforum.

The forming of the club was a means to an end and once that was achieved that should have absolutely been that IMO. They're not a SR club, or at least they weren't initially - regardless of what you want to say about CW discussion etc it was a fucking massive part of the club in its early days and for me a CW discussion society has no place in the SRC.

It's tricky now, as I'll concede that they're far more of a club now than they ever have been but to my mind there's still no doubt that the fact they're still the "CricketWeb Crabs" and are the only designated discussion place for CW doesn't sit well with me.

I don't give a fuck if Sledger wants to be a monumental arse and 'try and be diplomatic' (be upfront about it ffs) and completely miss the point, IMO. It wouldn't sit well with me if somebody formed Soccer RFC and that was the only place in which people discussed football etc or any other top matter. It's just not something I can get on board with. I realise I'm in the minority but that doesn't matter to me, I'm not just going to agree because I don't actually find (m)any of the reasons in favour of not segregating the Crabs from their CW affiliation at all compelling.

Even if all the Crabs members literally only contributed to the Crabs section, which clearly isn't the case anyway, they'd still be contributing to the forum. The Crabs section is just as much as part of this forum as the CricSim Pub or the Bannerman Shield Matches section.

There are certainly questions to be raised about the effect of such an outrageously successful club on the sim itself and whether something needs to be done to prevent an ever-lasting on-field dynasty (yes IMO) but there's absolutely no question that they're contributing a lot to the forum as I see it now, and going forward.

The Crabs are absolutely maintaining the vision I set out for the place. Better than any other team/group/subforum really. My idea was that team subforums could allow for greater freedom of speech than was possible on most forums if people signed for the right sides, as I could have a very lenient moderation policy on most things. Lots of different sorts people could use the site in different sorts of ways, forming different groups they liked to talk to and moving between competing environments for their personalities.

It hasn't always worked out perfectly. The lack of moderation has meant some of the dregs of world foruming have found the place and completely ruined the open forum from time to time, but the absolute poster boy for my vision is the Crabs. They've been a great example of the sort of thing I wanted to achieve here. The fact of the matter is, most of them wouldn't bother posting here at all if given the choice between posting on the open forum and just leaving, so subforums aren't detracting from open forum posts as much as they're giving us a wider base of members.

Nah, I'm not having this hogwash at all. On the train home atm but will refute this bullshit later.

Given that the Crabs were formed from members on CW who were interested in a Rugby sim, I don't see how the fuck you can come to the conclusion that the Crabs weren't formed out of an interest in the sim. And even if only half our member base contribute to the open forum, that's still 10-15 members more than would contribute to CricSim otherwise. I don't see how that's a criticism at all.

To call us "not a SR club" is a massive insult to everyone within the Crabs that worked hard to make the club a success both on and off the field, and those of us who have put in the work to improve aspects of the sim. The SCP ratings for example, came about because of guys like Hurricane and Quaggas (IIRC) putting in a lot of work with Heef to implement it. I also owe Quaggas a great deal of thanks for the work he put in to make my job as BaaBaas selector much easier.

This is just straight up bullshit. I'm not even going to bother trying to argue against this because it's just flat up wrong.

Your Soccer RFC analogy doesn't stand up at all because you guys who are part of CW at the Spartans are free to discuss CW, or music, or whatever the fuck you want to in your subforum. It's a confused analogy that doesn't make any sense, funnily enough much like your posts on the matter.

And I'd be quite happy to dilute our CW "influence" but we've made such a success of the club that further recruitment would be a) unneccessary and b) damage the sim further. Recruiting Emm was a solid move from Athlai, gun bloke to have in the subbie, and there's plenty of other blokes on CS I wouldn't mind recruiting for season 6. Only thing is that it would weaken the competition further.

Yeah pretty sure Heef proved once that our match threads are generally more active than others because more of us take an interest

So regardless of how we got interested, isn't that the point?

Can confirm the Stingrays subbie has a designated CW discussion thread.
