Early Inglis, (time of test debut) was an absolute sight to behold. He was breathtakingly brilliant.

Will be interesting to see whether he retires early or tries something else.

Agreed but he was always going to gradually lose his immense athletiscm regardless I'd rather him be bulked as he will IMO become a edge forward as his career winds down and still be more than fg quality till fat lady sings

I think the fact Inglis allows himself to play as an Indian rather than a chief in Rep sides isn't all bad given your spine should be taking charge

I think he could end up a brilliant forward. But I tend to believe some of the news articles written a year or so ago. He could retire very, very early. Especially if he wins a premiership with Souths. He's got nothing left to achieve and if he wants a retirement fund he could put on another 20 kilos and still pick up $2 mil a season in rugby.

  4. Benny BS Read

Yeah its a definite chance as long as we get a premiership first I'll respect whatever choice he makes

    That's a pretty high benchmark you've got for could've, should've, would've.

    He's a superstar in anyone's language.

  6. Magic AJ Parker

That was just him going from doing sfa to becoming the elite player he was at fullback. I said at the time the fapping over his performances was excessive.

He's a gun player not saying otherwise, one of the best in the world so not many are going to agree with me but I reckon he could've been an immortal and his career hasn't gone how I thought it would.

Those performances were as dominant as what Jarryd Hayne has produced over a similar period.

How anyone can criticise Inglis for non-involvment and then go on to use Jaryd Hayne as an example of what a player should be doing is beyond me.

Hayne has been lambasted for years for not getting involved enough for the Eels.

Bullshit, watch the games don't just listen to the media. Haynes been a weapon since turning out for Fiji years ago. As soon as he's not racking up 5 try assists a game he's got an attitude problem. I think it's more often a case of being surrounded by shit cunts.

  10. Jazz NC Smith

^^ Exactly that. The expectation since 2009 is that Hayne has to side-step multiple opposition players and score a try or he is underachieving. The shit he copped in 2010, despite an excellent season, is a perfect example of that.

Realistically, Parramatta's reliance on Hayne to be a primary playmaker means that he probably has a higher involvement than most fullbacks around. When people talk about Hayne's lack of involvement, I've generally interpret it as "I watched the 5 minute highlight package of the Eel's game and didn't see that much of Hayne".

Hayne's involvement was significantly reduced under Stuart in general, but I think we now have conclusive evidence to suggest it was a coaching problem.

  12. Jazz NC Smith

Yeah definitely but comments like "lambasted for years for not getting involved enough for the Eels" are not astute observations about the role of a fullback in a Ricky Stuart-system, they are the generic criticisms of Hayne that have been coming since 2010.

Of all the different Hayne incarnations, I think I actually rated the Kearney-coached version the highest. Kearney is a truly terrible coach but he certainly knew how to get the best out of Hayne IMO.

To be fair to Arthur though, getting the best out of Hayne and Paulo at the same time is quite a difficult thing to balance.

  14. Jazz NC Smith

Getting the best out of Joseph Paulo is Jack Gibson-quality coaching.

Who coached the USA World Cup side? Get him in the hall of fame pronto, whoever it was. :p

Terry Matterson; current assistant at the Cows.

I assume Paulo did well for the USA because the standard of most of their games was reserve grade.

Reserve grade god and first grade nincompoop.

  18. Cribbage RG Cribb

Wash your mouth out with Paulo; this must never be spoken of.

  19. Sultan Pepper HG Emm

    Joseph Paulo is Phil Hughes

  20. Benny BS Read

Paulo benefitted hugely by being easily the best player in.his side and therefore deserving copious pill with a team styled to play around him

Little to lose chancing his arm etc
