Watto was a pretty good pick for when he got him, IMO. I probably would've picked Watto in Round 1 (unless I got first pick, in which case I'd have taken Kallis, obv).
I agonized over it for the simple fact that I really need an opener. I couldn't let him pass though. The issue now is that I'll probably looking for a keeper next up and **** knows what will be left by the time I come to picking openers. Either that or just pick a pretty shit batsman to keep. It's a conceivable plan if I can get the allrounder I want.
Same. And I was seriously considering him as a middle order batsman which would have enabled me to play two quicks, two spinners + Watson and Kallis in the majority of my games. BUT I think he was taken so I needed to solidify my top order, so I took Jaques (who is better than most openers ITBT).
If I was in your shoes I would leave my keeper to strengthen the other positions. because no matter how long you leave it (no one needs to pick two keepers as there are no injuries) you will still be able to pick up an experienced keeper who averages mid thirties in FC cricket. As EWS says, this is a domestic comp, not test cricket, so FC records are pretty vital. I did take Haddin early though because (a) he is my favourite player and (b) I'd rather 7 blokes averaging over 40 than 6 blokes averaging over 45 and one 30.
Yeah. I was eying him off ever since I made my third pick. The funny thing was when McDonald went before him. I was there wondering what was going on. I actually scanned the already selected player list for a good minute because I was sure that he must have been chosen.
He'd be a decent selection now. But in a team that already had Symonds, the fifth bowling option was covered and picking McDonald mainly on his bowling as the 4th pick was ridiculous.
I don't think it was that bad as such.. maybe a little early I guess, but he deserves a place in this. He's the ideal player to have batting 7 and being the fifth bowler.. although to have such a player it basically means you need someone in the top 6 to either be a frontline bowler or keep wicket. As it stands McDonald will probably end up playing as a bowling allrounder and although he visibly doesn't look that much with the ball, averaging 29 or whatever he does in the Sheffield Shield is really nothing to sneeze at, particularly when you have to play at Junction Oval or whatever it's called now.
I know. Such a joke we have him playing for Australia and North as a spinner. Warne must be depressed.
I'm very tempted to take a certain player with my next pick but it would mean not picking Hopes. Probably more suited to the bowling allrounder position. Wait and see I suppose.
Picking McDonald before Watson was a massive **** up tbh. Just I didn't even have Watson on my radar. Completely and utterly forgot he existed.
