I haven't seen much of him either, which I'd why I'd be picking Jake Granville unless I was confident in his defence. I think I'd sooner put him at five-eighth than on the bench as a hooker at this stage.

  2. Magic AJ Parker

Do they have a plausible back up dummy half option? It'll likely just be one of their young halves who gets a spot on the bench as a utility. - Scratch that, post above

Their 4th prop will come down to Dodds, Lowrie or Hala. Either of the first two would suffice. Not sold on Hala.

McCullough's issues extend beyond just his passing, he's a really poor decision maker.

I think they'll probably just make Gillett (should be Thaiday, but you know) have a stint up front and pick a team similar to the one Jaz named. McGuire and Hannant are both capable of playing really long minutes so they'll just go in a prop light IMO.

Nah we've been through this. It's McCollough until he learns how to pass off the ground. He doesn't deserve my spelling diligence.

As if we should pick Lowrie to play prop ffs.

Who said Lowrie would play prop?

    He'd play lock.

    Here.

  9. Magic AJ Parker

Any 2 of Parker & Hanannt/Mcguire/Kennedy have a big enough workrate to justify having a defence orientated middle third player on the field at the same time.

Like I said, it's a side who just can't afford to concede points because there's not that many in them.

Macca for the 80 and chuck Grandmaville on at the same time for patches.

That'd just allow you to pick another second rower or an outside back on the bench which is just wasted in the modern day game imo.

Picking 2 middle third players on the bench is a must.

You move Parker up front. And play Lowrie at lock. Not the other way around.

I like Lowrie and do agree we need to keep the middle tight but you can't criticise Brisbane for not having any props who can consistently bend the line and then suggest we ask Lowrie to push up front.

  13. Magic AJ Parker

Well now we're just getting pedantic. Whether Lowrie's at prop or Parker is they're still going to be playing the exact same roles.

And yes I ciricisted Brisbane's prop rotation and depth for not having any variety which is why I think they need to go in the total opposite direction and just dominate field position through strong discipline and excellent defence. I wouldn't be justifying Lowrie for any other reason.

  14. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

No they wouldn't and it's not pedantic. It's the chief distinction between prop and lock. When Hannant and McGuire come off Parker must take the early hit-ups, presumably the first since Kennedy apparently doesn't like taking the hard runs, right? He can't wait until 3rd and 4th tackle as he sometimes does at lock, which means his role from when Hannant and McGuire are on to when they're not, certainly does change. We're never going to start a fresh set with fucken Lowrie taking the first charge.

I thought the reason was because we lack points? Oh I get it, we lack points partly because we lack variety in the front row. So yeah, let's pick Lowrie up front. That'll help us dominate field position.

Moving Parker in the front row could be interesting.

    8. Parker
    9. Macca
    10. McGuire
    11. Glenn/Thaiday
    12. Gillett
    13. Thaiday/Glenn

    14. Granville
    15. Hannant
    16. Kennedy
    17. Oates/Lowrie

Yeh Parker picks up a bit of the slack that's caused by not having a traditional prop on the field, it really doesn't matter what position you call it. They'll both be playing the middle third, we'll just call it the 4th middle third position on the bench then if it puts your mind at ease. Whether Parker's playing at lock or prop he's still going to be playing the same role whilst Lowrie is on the field, i.e taking a lot more yardage carries earlier in the set.

I think Brisbane lack points for a number of reasons, not just because their prop rotation lacks variety.

As for how Lowrie will help the side dominate field position, well for starters by tightening up the defence around the ruck, not allowing teams to get a roll on and keeping the opposition trapped as far down the field as possible. Strong carries aren't the only way to dominate field position if that's what you're suggesting although I find it strange for you to overlook the value of good defence.

Concession rather than half-arsed acquiescence would put me more at ease.

Hence my use of the word "partly".

You shouldn't find it strange because I wasn't. Picking Dallas Johnson at lock in the QLD team could certainly be justified on the basis of controlling field position but not if he's being picked at prop. In other words, I'm not against Lowrie being picked on the bench in principle. I probably wouldn't pick him just yet but I don't think it's a bad idea.

What if you picked Johnson at prop with Scott at lock?

So you've got no issues with the merit of the selection, we don't disagree on the roles you just have an issue with the fact that I said prop instead of lock despite the fact that both will be defending and attacking in the middle third like Brisbane have always done when Parker plays lock?

    Like I said, pedantic.
